January. Izzy sighed. Back to square one. He trudged forward along the dreadful pathway he had never admire. Apparently, gravity pulled him exceedingly harder towards the ground today, the third day of the first month - or so he thought. Izzy had always been exaggerating everything. An entity of any type and form would worth three to four times greater in his mind than it actually is in reality. However, today, on this very awful day, he wasn't overstating things at all. It was the first day of school in that year.
"This is absolutely unacceptable," he mumbled silently, as he kept his pace and posture, being overly cautious and hyperaware of his surroundings. He figured he was a clumsy fellow after he had been scolded by his maid over the stains he occasionally get on his uniforms. Izzy had so much to endlessly curse at, like the hygiene and sanitation of that school, but his head was occupied by the thought of looking forward to something. All around him were familiar faces whose names he never bothered to acknowledge. They were there because the universe and fate decided to put them there, he recited the quote from one of his books that he found quite magnificently appealing.
There are always two sides to everything, he randomly thought. He made a mental visualization of a situation in which he could use those words, and make them quotable for his friends' social media updates. Yes, it was and always has been his friends.
"I can't wait to catch up with them!" he unintentionally raised his voice, loud enough to have several displeased eyes staring at him. He grunted out of embarrassment. Izzy had several friends who described him as narcissistic, but he denied it, of course. He pondered over the thought of his group of friends as he climbed up a flight of unclean stairs excitedly. Obviously, his purpose of going to school was never similar - or even close to a common nerd's purpose. The only time when he wouldn't be care-free had always been 8 hours before the exams start.
His footsteps rang in loud thuds, his laziness and unwillingness evident with every short exhales everytime the stairs twisted. Mornings aren't his cup of tea and teas aren't even his thing either. He thought of them as permanent markers that makes your teeth brownish, like the color of iodine, and eventually black, when iodine makes contact with carbohydrate. See, Izzy has this weird way of thinking. Everything in his mind is connected to the next, like wires in a company's complicated mainframe computer. Branches just simply branches into more branches, get it?
A fat fist jabbed him on his right shoulder. He was on the verge of swearing, but as he turned, he saw a pair of naturally squinted eyes with a slightly chubby face. He smirked and jabbed him back immediately after. Nathan, my best friend for as long as my brain could recall, he smiled at this thought. He can't recall what he had for breakfast, but things that matter usually just imprint themselves on your brain.
"I see your diet routine hadn't been so great, did you eat a boar for dinner last night?" Izzy shot him. Nathan rolled his eyes, unhurt.
"Been opening tin cans with those buckteeth? You smell like sardine," a backfire attempt by Nathan. Izzy ignored him and continued their conversation. "How was your break? Did I mention you were fat?"
They never failed to exchange insults when greeting each other. It was like their unwritten and unspoken law. And abide to it they must. It has always been that way. Always, Izzy thought.
They finally reached the top floor just before their conversation started to get heated up. Nathan was visibly panting, but Izzy held back his bullets and smirked instead. Both of them settled down on a bench their pack called Home. They were the only two that were stupid enough to had woken up early and rushed their bodies to school on that day.
