Thomas loaded our bags into the car, a warm smile spread across his face. He seemed to be in a good mood and as I turned to look at Maxen's family standing at the front of their impressive house I could tell he wasn't the only one being in a good mood. This weekend away trip had been good for all of us. I knew the heavy feeling in my chest disappeared because I also resolved some personal issues, but there were many more which awaited the both of us. Trailing my eyes to Maxen I was taken back by the fact that he had been staring at me. Nothing in his expression told me that he was worried. He looked determined, like his usual ambitious self. He reached out to me, brushing his fingers against my cheek in a loving way which flustered me. The was nothing much to the gentle gesture, it only showed his feelings toward me, yet it embarrassed me he did it in front of his family. I closed my eyes when I heard Jasmine's squeal followed by his mother's laughter. Maxen and I weren't ready to get married yet but his mother and sister were already planning our future wedding. It was Maxen's chuckle which pulled me back to the present. He viewed me with soft eyes, his hand clasping mine without me realizing it. His warmth which flowed into me comforted me enough to make me forget about his family watching us.

"Let's go home, darling."

There it was again, his endearment which reminded me of a time which Maxen very much treasured. I didn't remember any of it vividly, but I'd treasure it as well. I couldn't forget about the fact that this man in front of me had been thinking of me for a very long time now.

"Yes."

Maxen released my hand and let me climb into the car first. It warmed my heart seeing him turning to wave at his family and then climb into the car as well. Once he shut the door Thomas walked around the hood of the car and took a seat in the driver's seat.

"You look radiant today." He told me.

"You're such a flatterer." I teased him.

Maxen glanced from Thomas to me, suspicion clear in his stormy eyes, "So this is what the two of you do whenever I'm not present."

I frowned, not quite following what he was saying, "Excuse me?"

He folded his arms across his chest, "I suppose there is nothing wrong with some harmless flirting. But it took me off guard."

I had to close my mouth from the shock, Maxen always had been a straightforward guy, but this was something I didn't expect of him to bring up. The silence in the car was deafening. It was Thomas' laughter which lightened the mood.

"Only Ruby could bring out your jealous side, Mister Valentine."

Maxen trailed his eyes to Thomas, "Are you mocking me right now?" He demanded to know, "If you're referring to my darling as Ruby you call me Maxen." He told Thomas in a firm tone which would make most people obey him without hesitation, "Now if you excuse us." He put the privacy screen up to cut off communication between Thomas and I. It was so childish and out of character for Maxen that my stomach was hurting because of how much I was laughing. Tears streaming down my cheeks which ruined my make-up, but I couldn't stop myself, "You're the worst, Ruby."

I sat up straight hearing him call me Ruby, wiping away the tears I reached for my phone and turned on the camera to fix myself a little to be half decent again. Maxen took the device away from me and cleaned up my messy face instead. Wiping away carefully underneath my eyes he tilted my head back while he took a good look at me. I couldn't stop my heart from racing simply because Maxen was completely focused on me.

"Do you regret me kidnapping you?" He asked me quietly.

That question completely ruined the magic for me, it took me a while to figure out what he was trying to say. When I did figure it out I responded to him with a smirk. Pushing his hands away from my face I straightened in my seat and focused on the scenery instead, trying to calm myself down.
