The launch party was tonight which meant I had to do a lot of grooming, I wouldn't let even a single strand of hair being out of place. I needed to look absolutely perfect standing next to Maxen. He made looking picture perfect look effortlessly, I was jealous of my own husband. It didn't matter to me when he told me that I looked fine the way I am, it was very much appreciated but no way in hell I'd let people take my pictures when I looked anything but perfect next to Maxen Valentine.
I was seated in a big, comfy chair letting a nail technician go nuts with my nails. I always went for a simple French tip but the technician and Jasmine convinced me to do something more daring so we picked the new game as a theme. The colors were bold but not hideous, I quite liked it. Jasmine who noticed that I wasn't making faces of disgust commented on it.
"I'm glad you gave it a shot."
The woman with short mermaid colored hair agreed, "Yes, it already looks awesome. What better way is there to show your reward?"
I chuckled, I could come up with tons of other ways to show my support but I knew what the woman was trying to say and my nails did look awesome because of her.
The woman with amazing colored hair was the owner of the popular salon but she rarely worked on simple designs like French tips. People booked her time to get awesome art done on their nails. When Jasmine started to explain what kind of design she had in mind for me the owner got involved and wanted to show off her skills.
"Make sure to subtly show off your nails." Jasmine told me, "It's a great way to show off your support for the game and the amazing artwork of Tasha."
Said woman smiled at Jasmine, "Why, thank you, firecracker."
"Firecracker?" I asked, remembering I heard that somewhere before.
Jasmine didn't look pleased with Tasha, "Never mind that." Jasmine trying to change the subject made me very curious, "It's Mr. Valentine." She sighed, showing me my phone, "Let's ignore it-"
I glared at Jasmine for even trying to suggest something like that. She rolled her eyes at me and then started going through my bag. When she found my earpiece she rather forcefully shoved it in my ear and swiped the screen for me.
"Hi." I greeted quietly, "What's up?"
"Darling, you're not coming to the office at all today, are you?" He asked.
I heard him typing away, he was probably seated behind his desk and answering his emails. He rarely got to sit behind his desk like that, there was always someone who wanted to have his opinion. I heard his desk chair move in the background. Was he pacing because I was not coming in today? I hoped he wasn't. He knew I could do my job not being seated behind my desk. It's what I had been doing all this time and it worked, I got results which helped Maxen get where he was today. I could only assume husband Valentine was talking to me right now out of concern for my wellbeing and not CEO Valentine who wondered about his employee not being at the office.
"I'm not coming in," I confirmed.
"Darling, you're taking this party way too seriously."
I didn't agree with that and I made that clear to Maxen a few times already. Rolling my eyes hearing Maxen say that to me once again caused Jasmine giggle. She knew her brother could be overbearing. He wasn't saying things which were upsetting or offensive, it was the complete opposite. He complimented my natural beauty and it did make me feel good but sometimes I just wanted to look absolutely fabulous.
"Let me talk to him," Jasmine demanded of me.
I glared at her, "No, I'm having this discussion with my husband. You can give your opinion to your brother later."
