"How are things with you and Eliza?" I struck up a conversation with Daniel while we changed into our football gear.
"Really good." Daniel's lips spread into a broad smile. "How about you?"
"Me?" I suddenly regretted asking in the first place. "Not great." I answered gruffly.
"Isla hasn't said anything more?" He asked curiously.
"Nope." I tugged my shirt over my head.
Daniel slapped me on the back as we walked out together. "I hope she sees reason, you're a good guy."
"Thanks." I said with finality. I really didn't like talking about how Isla and I were going at the moment.
As I crossed the field I looked out over the almost barren stands. It was a freezing winter's day and not too many people were willing to brave loosing a few toes to watch our team play on home ground. It didn't take long to spot Isla. I felt my heart rate pick up as she sent me a little wave. She looked so beautiful wrapped in a green scarf and with her hair pulled back into two braids.
"Watson!" My coach called my name, snapping me out of my daze. Our team huddled together to get a pep talk and a few pointers before we took our positions.
The second the ball was placed in the middle of the field I felt my senses heighten. I could hear every whisper of people on the stands and smell the damp earth beneath my feet. I submerged myself in this zone, allowing myself to momentarily forget about my mundane problems.
When the whistle blew I charged forward, trusting my newfound speed and strength while reminding myself to not try to carry the team. I scored a couple of great goals before we took a break at half time.
I sculled a bottle of water from the field boundary. I looked up where I had previously seen Isla but she was gone.
"You play very well."
I turned to face Ciara Pittman. I was struck for a moment, as ethereal as Banshees were with dead straight black bangs, slate grey eyes and long legs wrapped in fish net stockings. She clearly enjoyed my dumbstruck expression as I realised I had been staring too long.
"Are you enjoying the perks of superhuman strength, speed...stamina?" She balanced a hand on her hip as she fluttered her eyelashes my way. Was this flirting?
"Uh-yeah I guess." I didn't really know what to say so I toyed with the empty bottle in my grasp.
She smiled with full lips. "So shy." She chuckled.
I heard her heartbeat before I saw Isla talking by the food stand with Riley.
"If you know anything about my kind you'd know that we have a knack for empathy." Ciara looked between Isla and I. "I know how it feels to watch someone you love fall for another."
I saw genuine heartbreak in her eyes.
"Isla isn't falling for anyone." I declared adamantly.
"Although you do look very dashing without them, maybe you should have left your glasses on a little longer."
My brows furrowed as I returned my gaze to Isla as she laughed at something Riley said.
I tensed when I felt Ciara place her hand on my arm. "The shift for creatures as Werewolves and Vampires is incredibly dramatic." I felt her gaze bore into my soul, enchanting me as I turned to face her properly. "It can be hard for such creatures to find an outlet, for their animalistic desires." Now I was sure she was hypnotizing me, with her sultry voice and killer smile.
