April
I channeled my inner Queen for the celebration, my hair curled into silky waves down my back, a tiara encrusted with emeralds upon my head. My makeup was soft and alluring, accentuating my prominent cheekbones and full lips. I wore the ruby dress I had found in London, topped off with black heels and a multitude of rings adorning my fingers.
"It's time." My mother entered the room, halting abruptly at seeing the dress I had chosen to wear. "Why are you doing this?" She acted as if it affected her more then me.
I didn't dignify my mother's question with a response, making my way past her and towards the ballroom where everyone was gathered for the night. The music dulled and everyone's eyes were cast my way as I walked onto the balcony. Hundreds of bachelors had been invited, I looked down upon them as if they were nothing, and that they didn't stand a chance against me. My hand swept the railing as I made my way to ground level, where the Taylors greeted me.
"April, you look absolutely stunning." Eleanor's mother kissed both my cheeks.
"Why thank you." I put on my best smile. "I'm glad you could make it."
"We wouldn't miss it for the world, isn't that right Eleanor." Her father nudged Eleanor and she sent me a tight-lipped smile with a slight nod. Somebody was not a happy camper and I liked it that way.
"Tonight is very important."
"I couldn't agree more." My grandmother appeared by my side, her stealth not dampened by age.
"I can't wait to see your final decision."
"Neither can I." I feigned a smile, meeting Eleanor's heated gaze for a moment.
Eleanor and her parents left and I slipped away as relatives from Alick's family stepped forward to speak with my grandmother. I barley had a moment to breathe before somebody else stopped me in my tracks.
"April, may I have this dance?" Darren bowed slightly, his hand extended.
I desperately wanted to refuse, looking away to lock eyes with my grandmother. I returned my gaze to Darren, taking his hand unwillingly. "If we must."
Darren led me to the centre of the room, where many others danced in sweeping movements to the melodic and dark music being played by a quartet on one side of the room. I gave one hand to Darren, my other on his shoulder as he pulled me closer to him with a hand at my waist. I looked everywhere but at him.
"You look heavenly." He complimented after a period of silence.
"Really? Satan's daughter looking like an angel, I doubt it." I twirled as he spun me out, before twirling me back to his side.
"Ever heard of the myth of Hades and Persephone?"
"Naturally." I turned to look at him while we danced.
"I'm still trying to figure out which you embody."
I frowned.
"Are you a Goddess? Or are you ruler of the underworld?"
I smirked at his analogy. "Why can't I be both?" I gave him a seductive smile before twirling away, switching partners with the man beside us, his partner taking my place with Darren. I danced for a good while, meeting dozens of Vampire bachelors, even a few Werewolves who had snuck in to catch a glimpse of my glorious self.
The song ended and I made my way to the buffet. I indulged in blood dipped strawberries and blood wine before taking a seat beside Alick.
"Wow, I didn't know you owned a suit." I eyed his tux.
