How does one judge art?

By how appealing it looks?

How much effort is put into the work?

The artist's reputation?

The emotions the work expresses?

What the piece pictures?

How unique it is?

How does one judge art?

Is it even fair to call something ugly because it is different from the norm?

What even is the "norm" in art?

An artist crafted what they thought was the most beautiful painting

They had created yet so far.

It captured sadness and hope simultaneously,

But it still had the underlying mystery

Of where these emotions came from.

All of their strokes were confident and perfect,

Or so they thought.

Then,

One person comes and calls the piece was ugly.

The artist shrugged

And put the thought aside.

But the critic somehow made it back into their mind.

It began haunting them.

Losing sleep,

Dying creativity,

And mindlessness ensued.

They wanted to find a solution to her misery.

Painting more,

Improving their skills,

Ignoring the critics,

Having faith in themselves,

they soon found her answer.

They didn't have to please anyone.

They were content with their art.

That was what mattered.

Still,

Despite their best efforts.

Their artwork was not acknowledged.
