Chapter Three
Lilly's P.O.V
"Have a good day at school Lilly, and stay safe while walking to the bus!" my mom hollered as I carried two pieces of bacon, my breakfast, out the door with me.
As I stepped outside, my house door slammed behind me, and a gust of fresh air flushed over me. The whirling air was cool and filled with moisture from the thick fog we were having this morning. I can barely filter out three houses from the fog from where I'm standing. Before I leave the front steps to my house I begin to rummage my bag for my headphones and iphone. Once I slipped a headphone into my right ear, Ode To Sleep by Twenty One Pilots echoed through the ear buds. As I take conservative bites of my breakfast, I walk along the sidewalk leisurely. Behind me, maybe half a block away, I can hear the familiar rattling of skateboard wheels running along patchy concrete. As they become closer I can faintly hear a deep voice calling out my name,
"Lilly!" Dean called out to me from the road while riding up to me on his skateboard.
I slowly took out my headphones out, paused my music, and stopped walking while studying Dean. His dark drown hair laid perfectly under his red beanie. He was wearing a grey V-neck from american eagle with a red, gray, white, and black checkered button-downed flannel with a hood unbuttoned over it. His pants were grey skinny jeans, and his shoes were red vans with white shoelaces. He's so attractive...
"Dean? What are you doing here?"
"I could ask you the same thing. I live about a block down from here, I was just heading to school and I saw you, it must be my lucky day. Are you headed to the bus stop?" he replied with a wink and a smirk after he pointed to his house in the distance.
Lord he's attractive, especially with that sexy smirk he wears so well...
"Yeah actually, I am. But, did you just say you live at that house?" I questioned while pointing at the house two down from mine.
Dean stopped his skateboard, kicked it up with one foot, and held it in one swift motion, while i finished off the last of my bacon.
"Yeah, why?"
"Well, if thats your house, then mine is two houses down from yours. I live in that one right there," I slowly stated while pointing out my house.
"Well, then I guess theres no sense in asking you where you've been all my life, cause now I know." After leaning his skateboard up against the mailbox in front of me, he explained this with a wink. He leaned up against the same mailbox with his arms crossed.
Oh my gosh, I couldn't help but laugh and smile at him. Unfortunately, I could feel my whole face turning to a shade of pink.
"You know, your smile looks good on you. You should wear it more often. But I'm sure your boyfriend tells you that all the time," Dean explained with a smirk while he tilted his head and studied my face.
"Hah, thanks, but I actually don't have a boyfriend at the moment." I replied while looking at the ground once my blush intensified.
"So it really is my lucky day..." he purposed softly, but went on to ask,
"Do you mind if I join you on the bus? That is, if we make it in time to board it, the bus should be at the stop right now,"
"Wait seriously?! Crap!" I exclaimed with panic.
"Ya, but I know a way we can make it on time. But you'll have to trust me on this one..." he explained
"Okay... how?"
Dean picked up his skateboard and laid it in the right lane of the empty road. He then walked over to me and grabbed my hand, leading me to his skateboard.
"Do you trust me?" Dean asked while looking into my eyes and still holding my hand.
"Yes..." I replied with confusion plastered all over my face.
He then let go of my hands, picked me up by my waist, and placed me on the back half of his skateboard. Then he went to the front half and stood on it.
"You might want to hold on to some thing, preferably me." he explained with a smug tone and a wink.
While thoughts and fears were running through my mind I put my arms around Dean just above his hips and held onto him tightly. He pushed off the curb and we glided along the side of the road towards the bus stop, gaining speed with every house we passed. Dean looked back at me and smiled. We were close to the school bus, the last three kids were boarding it. We finally made it to the curb separating the road from the side walk near the bus stop. The last kid was boarding. We both quickly jumped off his skateboard, and booked it towards the school bus, but we were too late. The doors were closed and it started to drive away just as we got to the stop sign. Still breathing heavy, Dean and I sighed. I turned to face him.
"Well, what now?" I asked Dean as I pulled my hair back into a ponytail, just now regaining my breath.
"Well, it depends... You cool with riding on the back of my skateboard again?" he asked with a smile.
"Yeah, why not."
"But first, let me ask you, have you made it a bad habit of yours to get stuck with me Lilly?" Dean teased with his famous smirk and a wink.
"Well I wouldn't call it a bad habit..." I mocked with a smirk.
