Chapter 6

All night, I lay awake because every time I close my eyes I picture that traitor with Anna. At around three in the morning, i actually fall asleep. My eyes crack open when the beeping of my alarm sounds. I set it so i would wake up on time, instead of being late for the bus again. (Even though I'm exhausted) Usually I would clean out my closet, trying to find something nice to wear. But really, what's the point anymore? I don't have a boy friend. I pull out a purple tank top with white swirls around the collar. "Not gonna happen" I whisper. I through out many shirts until i find one i like. It's a plain white t-shirt that i pull over a pink tank top. I grab my black, pink and white plaid sweatshirt and through on some shorts. I check the clock; I gotta go. Grabbing a snack on my way out, i through open the door and run to my stop. The second my foot hits the ground the bus turns the corner; i made it! The door opens and i take my seat. I hate how you just kinda sink into the leather, instead of just sitting. I sat in this seat since the first year i came to this school. No one even dares to sit in it, so it doesn't surprise me when, stop after stop, no one even looks at me. I'm pretty used to this, but it took me by surprise when a new boy climbed the steep steps of the bus, and shyly walked down the isle. Everyone slid to the end of their seat, enabling him to sit with them. I highly doubted he would wanna sit next to me, so I stayed leaning against the window. I heard him clear his throat, right next to my seat.

"Can I, uh, sit here?"

I look him up and down. "Sure." He nervously sits at the edge of the slick brown surface of the seat.

"A little shy today?" I ask. Instead of answering, he looks at me like i was gonna punch him or something. I decide to play around with him, so i softly punch his shoulder and say,

"You should probably take up more of the seat. It's dangerous to sit there." He just faces forward, ignoring me.

"You're gonna fall off," I warn. As we turn a corner, he slips, and grabs my hand, trying not to fall flat on the floor. I pull him up, and say,

"Told ya." He smiles, and then laughs. We laughed together as I tug on his hand to get him closer. He moves an inch. "Dude, your gonna fall off again." He lets go of my hand and slides towards me, an inch away from my leg. I thrust my hand that he wasn't holding at him and introduce myself.

"I'm Jessica, you can call me Jessie." The boy smiles, but doesn't say anything back. "What's your name?"

He looks into my eyes, and softly mumbles, "Marcus."

I smile. Marcus, it's a cool name. "Welcome to Rosa High School." Marcus was about to say something, but he stopped when the screeching of the breaks drowned him out. He got up, and we both got off the bus. "Where did you go before, Marcus?" I like saying that name.

He looks at me. "I was home schooled."

"Oh, well that's cool. Is it fun?"

He tells me all about his years of home schooling, and I bring him to the office to get his schedule.

"Your first class is, Science, with Ms. Lorenette. Hey, me too. I'll take you there." Marcus nods.

We get to the room, and i say, "If you have any questions, don't be afraid to ask."

"You're starting to sound like a secretary." He chuckles.

"Ha. Sorry 'bout that."

"It's alright. Uh, where do I sit?"

I point to the seat right next to mine. Sophia changed schools, so no one sits there. I sit, and he sits. Ms. Lorenette seems in a happier mood than normal. Marcus looks at me, and smiles. I smile back and mouth,

"Don't be fooled. She's actually the devil in disguise." That got a laugh out of him.

Ms. L.'s attitude went from cheery to evil. "Is there something you would like to tell us about, Mr.-"

Marcus looks at me.

"Tell her your name." I whisper.

"I'm Marcus Tone. You can call me Mark though, if you want."

She looks at him and it seems like she growls. "Nice to meet you Mr. Tone."

I don't know what caused it, but James found his way into my brain. He isn't in class again, and it just so happens, i know why.

I realize that the whole class is staring at me.

"What?" I ask.

"I'll repeat myself one more time." Ms. Lorenette says sharply. "You take care of your new friend here, and I might pass you."

I ignore her completely, and when the bell rings, I was so ready to get out that door, that I almost forgot about Marcus. I take an abrupt stop and turn around. He is still sitting at his desk.

"C'mon Marcus. We're gonna be late for our next class."

He gets up, and runs out the door right beside me.
