"a surprise italian getaway," elsie smiled, leaning her head on timothee's shoulder in the backseat of a bumpy taxi, "how cliche." the couple had just landed in milan around ten minutes earlier, and neither of them could be more excited. they were now departing from the airport in a small cab to their final destination, which was a mystery to elsie.
timothee kissed the top of her head. "have you figured out where we're going yet?"
"i didn't realize i was supposed to guess."
"well this is all a trip for you, love," he smiled, placing a hand on her cheek and looking down at her, "and since that's the case, it's all in your favor."
that's when it clicked in her head - she knew exactly what the boy was doing, exactly what he'd planned, and her heart began to beat a little faster. "timothee," she smiled, sitting up again and looking him in the eyes with her own open as wide as ever, "you did not-"
"oh, but i did," he laughed.
around an hour later, they arrived at an all-too-familiar villa - the very villa showcased in elsie's favorite movie, the very villa timothee had grown to love years prior. she began to tear up, questioning how he managed to rent it when it was likely in such high demand. he dodged the question, grabbing their bags from the trunk of the taxi and rushing her inside. she offered to help him carry everything, but he smiled and refused. "go," he said, "explore."
so she did. she ran in through the front doors, immediately stopping dead in her tracks to admire the beautiful scene. she couldn't believe she was here. she couldn't believe this was real. she had dreams of being here, of seeing the place where her comfort came to life. her fingertips danced up the railing of the stairway as she ascended it. upon reaching the second floor, the balcony immediately caught her eye. she walked toward the rod iron fencing in awe of the miles of beautiful greenery.
"notice how the trees aren't blooming with peaches," timothee said, coming up behind her and wrapping his arms around her waist.
"why is that? wouldn't now be a good time for them?"
"the trees were never peach trees. they had fake peaches on them, and a few real ones taped here and there so we could pick them from the trees to keep the illusion."
elsie faked a frown, "ugh, can't believe it was all a lie. this entire trip is WORTHLESS now. i wanted to run through fields of peach trees in the middle of the night with you and i can't even do that. might as well go home."
timothee giggled and kissed her cheek. "you're so stupid."
the two continued to roam the house, timothee telling little stories about the rooms as they went. we were filming the speech scene in here, and i was trying to look solemn and sad, and michael was trying to be consoling, obviously, but every time we started a take, armie would get my attention from behind the camera and give me these really aggressively positive thumbs ups, and so i'd have to hold back from cackling like a witch on every take. my tears were never acting, they were tears from me having to choke back laughter because armie NEVER STOPS. it was hell, but it was also the best experience of my life. the best one before you, at least.
eventually, they made their way onto the patio, and timothee made dinner, coq au vin. they ate at the quaint little table outside as the breeze lightly blew through the trees.
"i didn't know you were so keen on cooking," elsie said, "this is really good."
tim's cheeks blushed lightly as he smiled. "thanks, it's a family recipe. coq au vin is a french dish, so i guess it's inappropriate considering we're in italy, but i only really know how to make french foods.." he awkwardly scratched the back of his neck. "i never really-uh... had many friends, as a kid.. so instead of playing outside, my mom and dad taught me to make the dinners they made."
