Hey guys!

I'm back with another Petska one-shot. This one came to mind randomly; our favorite couple have a little impromptu date night at home after their original plans fall though. Of course, they can't just have an innocent dinner - there's got to be some dessert after, right?

Enjoy xoxo

Peter x Mariska - Date Night ONESHOT

Clink!

The keys clinked against the wooden sideboard table where they landed once being thrown from the hand of Mariska Hargitay. It had been the mother of all days; she'd been up since four-thirty, had to be in New Jersey and on set for filming the 20th Season of Law and Order: Special Victims Unit by six, then back in the city by noon for a meeting regarding her foundation, Joyful Heart, and then had to return back to New Jersey for more scenes to be filmed in the warehouse that was used for their squad room scenes. Since about six, she had been in various places of the city, running around and filming more on location bits.

And now here she was, finally stumbling into the three-story townhouse. She glanced at the clock on the wall; it was just after eleven.

She was tired. As much as she loved her job and her role on the hugely popular police procedural, there were some aspects that left her feeling a little bummed. The long hours and constant rushing around meant little time to physically be with her kids and her husband, and that was something she hated. She knew the kids were asleep; she'd FaceTime'd them earlier and told them goodnight snd that she loved them. She knew they understood but it was still difficult. She tried to balance things as much as she could, but it was a little chaotic sometimes.

And then there was Peter; 'he's too good to be true sometimes' she always thought to herself. He truly was. She felt so guilty when filming had gone on longer than planned, as tonight was meant to be their normal Friday date night. Her heart broke when she had to FaceTime him and cancel their plans, but he had been so understanding of such. She almost wanted to cry on the spot because of how understanding he was, only confirming indeed that he was too good to be true. He told her he loved her and told her to be safe and reiterated that he wasn't angry with her, that he truly understood. Fuck, she wanted to cry now from thinking about it.

She sighed as she dropped her bag against the wall under the sideboard and toed off her shoes before hanging her leather jacket onto the coat rack, next to the jackets of her children. She ran some fingers through her hair as she made her way towards the kitchen of their vast home. A glass of wine sounded extremely appealing; a glass of wine then straight to bed she would go. The kitchen light was on; Peter always left the light on for her even if he didn't know what time she would come home.

She rounded the corner to go into the kitchen, yawning as she walked across the wooden floor. She opened her eyes as she crossed through the doorway, only to stop as she spotted her husband sitting at the island counter top with a bottle of wine, two plates with the most delicious looking pasta and chicken dish, and a candle in the middle. He was dressed in pajamas bottoms and a t-shirt of course but was smiling at her nonetheless as he noticed the shocked look on her face.

"We couldn't go out for date night; didn't mean we couldn't have a romantic dinner - whipped this up when you told me you'd just finished the last shot and would be home soon." He explained as he stood up as she approached. He slipped his arms around her waist, pressing his lips against her forehead before looking at her again. She stroked her hands up his arms and over his shoulders before holding onto his neck, giving him her dazzling smile as her brown eyes sparkled with happiness.
