Bath Time

'11:42PM' - that was the time presented to Mariska by the clock on the wall in the foyer after she had tiredly stumbled through the front door in the late night hours, having finally just arrived home from a long day of work and having finally gotten out of the ridiculously blistering cold. She kicked off her shoes and left them by the door, and she hung up her coat before making her way through to the kitchen, rubbing her eyes and yawning as she did so.

It had been a really long day to say the least. The first days back to work filming after the holidays were always the worst. She had been in a subdued mood ever since she left her marital bed at four-thirty to get ready before her car arrived at quarter past five. She was still tired, but the shower had managed to perk her up a little bit. Still, she felt a bit sad about having to go. She was still on vacation mode with her children which made it hard to not see them all day, and was definitely till trapped in a little loved up bubble with her husband that made it hard for her to be apart from him. Even a kiss from him on the way out the door and a promise to talk to her during her breaks was not enough to lift her mood. She didn't want to leave. She hadn't wanted to leave home the day before when she had to go for a table read, and that wasn't even really as bad as she hadn't been gone from home that long. Today, however, was meant to be a long, fourteen or fifteen hour day, so she definitely wasn't feeling it - at all.

Today had unfortunately run longer; it seemed that everyone including the production crew was on vacation mode so things were a little slower than normal. The fourteen hour day that had begun at six-thirty when filming began actually turned into a seventeen hour day that had just ended around quarter past eleven. Mariska's mood had been subdued all day, which resulted in her spending a lot of time on her own just thinking to herself and whining about how much she missed her husband and kids. Even talking to him on the phone hadn't lifted her mood and nor had FaceTiming her children during the dinner break; she would have much rather preferred to be at home with them.

And now finally, she was at home. As soon as they had wrapped at 11:15pm, she had practically breezed through the task of changing her clothes and raced to her town car that would take her back to the Upper East Side, home to where her four heartbeats were. Traffic was minimal - thankfully - so she had gotten home in no time. She knew her kids were asleep and she made a mental note to go upstairs and kiss them, but right now, she just needed a sip of wine or something to help her chill out after this long day. She put her bag down on the counter, then rummaged through the cabinet for a wine glass and bottle of wine. She poured herself a glass, then leaned against the island counter, sipping the red liquid while running her fingers through her highlighted hair. Her joints were screaming and she felt like she could curl up anywhere and just go straight to sleep. 'The floor looks pretty damn comfortable right now.' She thought to herself as she took another sip, trying to finish the wine as quickly as possible so she could go upstairs and snuggle up to her husband.

She was so lost in her cloud of exhaustion that she didn't even hear the soft footsteps of her husband as his bare feet padded across the wooden floors of their foyer leading to the marble floored kitchen. She didn't even know he was coming up behind her until she heard his voice;

"About time you made it home."

Before she could even turn around, he had slipped his arms around her waist, and bent down a little to lean his head around and kiss her cheek as she was so much shorter than him. She relaxed in his loving embrace; the tension instantly melting away at the feeling of his fingers slipping underneath her shirt and stroking small circles over her flat stomach, and the calming scent of his aftershave as it filled her nostrils.
