Birthday Celebrations [OneShot]

Most people would whine about their birthday as the years rolled on, but for Mariska, she took it to the chin and found the joy in the day. It was just a blessing to see another year, and another opportunity to grow even wiser in this new milestone age.

Her fifty-fifth birthday started off beautifully. Though she has quite an early start as part of a deal that allowed her to get off by six tonight, she was up around four-thirty. Peter had gotten up with her and had surprised her with balloons and gifts as she'd stepped out of the bathroom after her shower. She had cried as she read the cards from him and their kids, cried some more when she eyed her different presents, laughed at the sight of the balloons as they were so beautiful. She'd eventually gotten dressed in a flash and rushed to kiss their sleeping children, before kissing Peter and rushing out the door as to not be late to set.

The day passed quickly; they breezed through shooting with only few hiccups here and there. The cast and crew wished her a happy birthday and presented her with a little birthday lunch as well. Joy radiated around her as she enjoyed her day; she laughed with her cast and crew during lunch, she later managed to take some time where she scrolled through various messages from her friends, as well as messages from her fans and little video edits they made just for her day. She'd even managed to take time to speak to her mother and siblings on the phone, as well as one of her best friends, Chris, whom had called to sing to her along with his kids and his wife. She felt overwhelmed by the amount of love surrounding her today; a constant reminder that no matter what, she was blessed to have some wonderful people in her life.

As the day turned into night, she was allowed off work by the promised time. She went home and showered, before changing into a dusty pink long sleeved fitted dress that stopped a few inches above her knees, and a pair of black heeled red bottom boots. Peter coordinated with her as he wore a pair of black trousers and a dusty pink shirt, with black shoes and a black jacket. The kids too coordinated their colors; the boys wore their black trousers and pink shirts with pink jackets and black sneakers, and Amaya wore a dusty pink dress with shiny black shoes as well.

Peter had organized a small party for Mariska with their close friends at a nearby Italian restaurant; they were allowed to have the vast private room in the large establishment which had enough room to seat everyone that had been invited. Guests ranged from the usual squad of friends such as the likes of Debra and Ali, as well as Isabel and Nancy and Ashley - and all of their families. Other friends included her cast mates and their spouses, and her cousin Eddie and his family had also joined them all as well. They enjoyed a great dinner which was more like a buffet of different Italian food for them to enjoy; Mariska laughed and smiled constantly which in turn made Peter smile as well as he loved to see her so happy. Everyone seemed to be enjoying themselves at the little party, and best of all, the birthday girl was happiest. She was just glad to have her family and close friends around; they were her heart and soul. She never needed presents; she just liked to make memories and this was one of those moments.

Later on, the guests were giving funny speeches, highlighting how much they loved the woman of the evening and how she changed their lives and provided them with light and joy. Speeches from her friends and cast were enough to make Mariska tear up, but when the kids all banned together and made such a lovely speech about her, she couldn't stop the tears from falling which led to Peter wrapping his arm around her to comfort her. Hearing the kids talk about how great of a mother she was and how much they loved her was something that warmed her heart, especially since she was always beating herself up about herself in terms of being a mother as she felt like she worked too much sometimes. Luckily her kids understood, and when they finished off their speech by jokingly telling her to stop crying because "Benson doesn't cry" , which made her laugh of course as she wrapped the three of them up in a hug. Once they'd sat down, Peter stood up as the last speech of the evening which immediately caused everyone to make an 'oooh' sound while Mariska blushed like crazy.
