She smiled.
Her golden eyes gleaming in the street lamps that were passed, ignoring the pestering glare they gave. Affixed to the paper in her shaken grasp, her eyes read down the message; one of three paragraphs long that made her heart throb and her breath vanish. Yes, this man loved her to the truest.
If only the message wasn't sent three years prior.
The sorrow began to settle, but she shoved it down within an instant. Today was his birthday, filled with smiles and laugher. Just how they were spent each year the two were together.
Her gaze changed, looking up from note as the light shining through the window continued to illuminate the cursive stained to the paper and tried to look beyond the driver's head. Even though she could barely read the signs that hurried away before her eyes could adjust to their words, she knew where she was. Only twenty minutes remained in the drive, giving her time to fix her appearance or even prepare herself for the coming events.
As the twenty minutes passed by her, she reminded quiet in her backseat and didn't wish to start conversation with her driver. For one, he didn't seem like he wanted to talk to her and he was quite rude upon her pickup. She wasn't someone who tolerated inadequate behavior and didn't plan on seeing that man again anytime soon; conversation would have just been pointless.
She leaned back in her seat, letting her head fall back as she shut her eyes and listened in on the radio which seemed to just have muffled men speaking nonsense she didn't much care for. It was the driver's car however, and she had no reason to tell him what he could and couldn't do with his own radio; she just wished it was some sort of pop music with a catchy tune that she could at least bob her head to so her tension could simmer down a bit.
Of all the years she knew that man and met his family, seeing them again made her feel so clammy and a bit queasy. None had spoken to her in the three years her relationship with their Princely member had ended, and to suddenly show before them made her nerves rattle. Even though the anxiety rested above all else, she did have to admit that seeing them once more sounded nice to her. When they were all once close, she felt as though she were a part of the family; something she had yet to experience before meeting the large group.
The twenty minutes had run out, and she now walked to the low ceiling building with her driver right behind her. Why was he coming along? He had no reason to, and it made her irritated. It was a free world however, and where she arrived was a public place; to each their own.
Walking into the building, it was loud and bustling. No one seemed to know she was even there except one woman with brown locks and a face that could only be described as serious. She walked over, raising an eyebrow at her driver which made him walk away and leave the two woman alone.
"This way. Don't stall." Brown Locks spoke.
An escort? Maybe the family regretted not seeing her for so long after all! Joy rose in her stomach as she walked along, ignoring every other scene happening around her.
Brown Locks stopped before a door, opening it and making the VIP guest walk through. She frowned, seeing as the room looked incredibly plain with a single table and two chairs. Light barely made its way into the room, but it was fairly late outside so complaining would just be bratty. She took on of the seats, Brown Locks sitting across from her and looking down at her lap.
"What's that?"
"From him." She responded quickly, "He wrote it, because he loved me."
"Then why did you do it?"
"Who are you any-"
"You killed him; Daniel Gregory."
She remained silent, not opening her mouth as her gaze remained at the floor, looking beyond the silver bracelets locked to her wrists. Brown Locks leaned forward, her glare becoming more intense.
"You can stay silent all you want, but it'll never hide what you did-"
The door to the room swung open, a tall man with orange hair and a grey suit entered. The man didn't hesitate to announce himself, saying he was the lawyer, and he demanded time alone with his client. Brown Locks didn't fight back, leaving the room as the lawyer took his seat.
"What did you say to her?" He whispered in a close to mutter voice.
"Nothing...."
"Good. Keep it that way. Your silence will make all of this pass over. They don't have any evidence, only desperation."
She nodded, knowing that he was most likely correct and she didn't really have any other options.
The lawyer to client talk lasted for a while, up until Brown Locks reentered, thinking that the two had more than enough time to speak. The lawyer glared, moving out of his seat and standing beside his client as Brown Locks took her seat once again.
"Think your lawyer can get you out of this?" Brown Locks smirked, shaking her head and chuckling, "You'll get what you deserve. Locked behind bars, becoming someone's Bitch."
The lawyer slammed his hand on the desk, "Don't speak to my client like that. She did nothing wrong."
"How sure are you of that? You're supporting a criminal."
"My client had no motive."
"Crazy, soon to be ex-girlfriend taking her own revenge. Sounds motive enough to me."
"Ms. Hannah is not guilty."
"Oh really?" Brown Locks turned to her, her face menacing, "You killed him, you know you did-"
"Accusations!" The lawyer yelled.
"-tying him up, hitting that handsome little face you loved so much. Listening to him beg and plead just so you could let him go, but you didn't listen, did you? Instead, you took a bat, hit him over and over again to hear his bones cracking and staining your clothes in his blood-"
"Enough!" The lawyer took to defense, "Ms. Hannah is innocent! You have no right to sit here and accuse her under no evidence."
Brown Locks glared, opening her mouth to speak before a soft laugh took the room. Both turned, seeing the accused laughing, her face red and tears taking her eyes.
The lawyer turned back to Brown Locks, "Now you made my client go insane. We should sue you."
"How shitty of a lawyer are you?" Brown Locks growled, "She killed him, loving the way his bones cracked and bent with every painful thing she did to him."
She laughed louder, shaking her head and throwing it back, "The cracking came after the flesh ripping you fucking cunt!"
Brown Locks and the lawyer froze.
"He didn't scream either. His mouth was sewn up, you should've see that in his damn autopsy. 3 weeks, trapped in a dark room with no escape. No one to hear him whenever I pulled out the knife, and no one to save him as it sunk deep into his skin." A smirk, one that was sinister and bone chilling, "You don't intimidate me."
Brown Locks was silent, looking at the murderer with fear in her eyes and a quiver on her lip, "Why'd you do it?"
"Like you said, 'Crazy, soon to be ex-girlfriend taking her own revenge'. I wasn't going to let him leave me. Ever. Either I had him, or no one did. He chose the latter."
