"Olive Ashford, am I actually stuck by you right now, for more than one hour?" She crossed her arms, and stuck her tongue out. "Do you want me to switch seats back with May?" I quickly shook my head. "Uh, that won't be necessary, Olive." I slid between her legs, and the seats that stood in front of us. Her knees brushed against mine, the feeling causing my skin to tingle. I could tell she felt it too because she shifted uncomfortably in her seat. "Sorry, it's sorta hard to get through here," I muttered, apologetically. She shook her head, a smile growing on her lips, "It's okay, Sam." I didn't meet her eyes and I hoped she couldn't see my cheeks turning bright red as I sat down next to her. "Damn." I muttered, reaching my hand out quickly to grab the piece of paper that had fallen from my pocket. "What's that?" She questioned, not moving to snatch it from me. "Song lyrics," I mumbled in reply, stuffing the piece of paper back into my pocket. She didn't speak a word about it, she simply kept silent, but her eyes didn't linger away from my pocket, where my hand still lingered. "What's the song called, Sam?" Olive asked, quietly. My eyes stared straight ahead at May, who was sitting next to the brown haired boy that I met earlier, Phillip. I shook my head, turning in her direction "It's nothing, it's not even good, anyway." Olive scoffed, rolling her eyes. "I guarantee it's good, Sam. You're going to Berklee because of your songwriting. Do not tell me that it isn't good." I allowed her to pull my hand away from my pocket, and grab the corner of the paper that barely snaked out. Slipping it from the pocket, she unfolded the paper, smoothing out the creases. A grin spread across her face when she read the lyrics. "This is amazing, Sam. What's it called?" I itched the top of my head, taking the paper out of her hands. "It's called I Tried." She fumbled her fingers together, and didn't say anything else. I sighed, and placed the paper between her hands. "Keep it." Olive's eyes widened to the size of marbles. "No, Sam. I can't keep this. These lyrics seem really personal to you." Shaking my head, I placed my hand on hers, though I did so barely. "Keep it, it'll be something for you to have when I become rich and famous." I grinned. She stuck her tongue out at me. "Who says I won't be famous along with you?" I shrugged, and removed my hand from hers, "Challenge accepted, Ashford." She grinned, not showing her teeth. "You have two Ashfords to complete with." I nodded. "I know and two Dixons." She continued to run her thumb over the square piece of completely white paper, besides where the black ink had seeped into it, spelling out words. "Do you really think we could make it to the top ten, Sam?" Olive asked, glancing at May, who was clutching onto Phillip's arm for dear life. "It's always possible, Olive." I replied. Olive grinned and leaned her head against my shoulder. "This is going to be a wild ride, Samuel Joseph Woolf, a wild ride for sure."
•••
She fell asleep, still clutching the paper in her hands. Her head was leaning on my shoulder and her beautiful brown hair tickled my bare arm. May was fast asleep against Phillip's shoulder. He had his head leaned back against the seat and he looked close to sleep himself. This plane ride was tiring everybody out expect for me, it was waking me up. I craned my neck around, looking at the girl sleeping against my shoulder. My green eyes looked over her, but my hands didn't move from my sides. Apart of me hoped that Lou wasn't right about me falling for her, but another part knew that he was right, and it was going to happen, which meant I would have to go to homecoming. I hated anything that had to do with dances, or dressing up. "Why are you staring?" She mumbled, cuddling closer to my shoulder. I felt my cheeks getting hot and I'm glad she wasn't looking up at my face. "Why are you still awake? I thought you were tired." She shook her head "Just a little." Sleep blurred her words, and I simply shook my head. "A little my butt, Olive," I said, quietly into her hair. "you're more than a little tired." She grinned before closing her eyes, and sleeping, with my lips pressed to her hair.
