Chapter 1

Annie’s POV

My name is Annie Kelsey Odair and I’m seventeen years old. Up until a few weeks ago, life was rather normal. I live in a nation called Panem. I’m told it is where North America once was.

My twin brother Finn and I led extremely normal lives up until nine weeks ago.

*Flashback*

“I’ll buy that one!” Finn said, pointing to one of the coloured squares on the board.

We were playing a game called Monopoly that had been invented a long time ago, before Panem existed.

“That’ll be $120.” I said, taking a paper bank note from the pile beside Finn.

“Ok. You’re turn!” Finn said.

I rolled the dice and moved my counter around the board, landing on one of my properties.

“Your turn.” I said.

Finn rolled the dice and moved his counter landing on a property of mine.

“That’ll be-”

I was interrupted by a hammering at the door.

My parents were out and Grandma Annie was in the garden so I ran to answer it.

“Oh hi Rue.” I said, smiling at my best friend who stood on the doorstep.

“Annie. Quick it’s an emergency!” She shouted.

“Finn I’ll be back soon!” I shouted into the house and I closed the door and ran down the street with Rue.

When we arrived outside Rue’s house and stopped, I took the opportunity to ask her what was going on.

“They say they’ve found it.” She said, shuddering.

“You don’t mean . . .”

I trailed off as Rue nodded her head solemnly.

“But how on earth. . .”

I was interrupted as the front door of Rue’s house opened and Rue’s mother Katniss walked out.

“Is it?” Rue asked quietly.

Katniss nodded.

“No.” I breathed.

Katniss nodded and Rue began to weep loudly.

“I’m so sorry.” I said to Katniss.

She nodded. “I’m sorry too.” She said, giving me a reassuring hug.

I nodded and made my way home.

Once I got inside the house, Finn came running into the hallway.

“It was him wasn’t it?” He asked.

I nodded, tears flowing freely down my cheeks.

Finn hugged me tightly and I continued crying.

*End of Flashback*

That was the day that my boyfriend, my brother’s best friend and my best friend’s brother was found, dead.

That was nine weeks ago, and my brother hasn’t spoken since.

I know there’s something he isn’t telling me and I hope to the Lord that eventually, he’ll fess up.

I keep asking him, but he doesn’t acknowledge me, as if he’s stuck in a bubble or something.

Finn’s POV

I know that Annie knows I’m not telling her things. And she’s right. But there’s certain things I can’t even tell my sister and I hope she’ll understand in time why I can’t.

I have two extremely large secrets that I can’t tell my sister.

I’m doing it to protect her, and honestly, maybe a little to protect me.

My first secret is that my girlfriend, Rue Primrose Mellark is pregnant and that the child she is carrying is mine.

I don’t know why I’m not telling her. I suppose I’m just nervous.

And the second to me is the definitely the worst and the most daunting.

I’m the reason that Finnick, my best friend, my girlfriend’s brother and my sister’s boyfriend is dead. . .

What did Finn do?!

I would have posted this about half an hour ago but I was watching the men's gymnastics in the Olympics. Team GB got silver!!!!!
