Chapter 9

Annie’s POV

I knock hesitantly on Katniss’ front door.

It’s the last thing I have to do before leaving Panem.

“Annie! How lovely to see you.” Katniss says, appearing at the door.

I smile.

“Please come in.” She says.

“I can’t really. I just wanted to ask a favour.” I say.

Katniss nods. “Of course.”

I hand her the envelopes. “I was hoping you could deliver these. I take it Finnick’s been home by now.”

She nods. “Gave me quite the shock too.”

I smile. “So they’ve all got names on them. There’s one for Rue, Finnick, Aunt Holly, Grandma Annie and Mom and Dad.”

She smiles. “I’ll get the letters to them this afternoon.”

I smile. “That means so much to me.”

She nods.

“And did Finnick by any chance tell you any big news?” I ask.

Katniss shakes her head.

“Well it’s not my place to tell you but I’m sure Finnick will tell you soon.”

Katniss nods.

“Goodbye Katniss.” I say.

“Bye Annie.” She says and I walk away.

Jennifer’s POV

Its mid-afternoon when someone knocks on the front door.

“Katniss! Come in!” I say, smiling at the familiar face.

“I really can’t stay. I’m just delivering letters.” She says, handing me two white envelopes.

I take them from her, extremely confused.

“One for you and Liam and one for Annie.” She says.

I nod. “Thank you.”

She smiles. “See you soon.”

When Katniss is gone I go into the kitchen.

“Who was that?” Liam asks.

“Katniss.” I say, going into the living room.

“Mom, letter.” I say handing the envelope to Annie.

She’s not my mother, she’s Liam’s but she might as well be my mother.

“Thank you dear.” She says, taking the envelope.

I nod and go back into the kitchen.

“What did Katniss want?” Liam asks.

“She had letters for us and your mother.” I say.

He nods.

“I’ll open it.” I say.

I open the envelope and pull out the letter and am shocked by the contents.

Dear Mom and Dad,

I’ve considered the options you gave me and I’ve made my decision. I’m leaving. I’m doing what’s best for me and my baby. I’ll write and send pictures but for now, I’m going to explore the world. I know what I did was reckless and now, I’m being responsible for my actions. I’m taking my child and leaving Panem and maybe, in a few years, if you’ll have me, I’ll return. After the two of us have seen the world.
