Chapter 10

Finnick’s POV

The first letter from Annie comes two weeks after she left.

Jennifer rushes over one morning, eagerly waving the letter around.

“What’s that?” I ask.

“A letter.” Jennifer says.

She hands it to me and I read it eagerly.

Dear Mum, Dad, Finn and Grandma,

How are you all? I’m doing well. I’m staying in Mexico at the moment, which isn’t very far from Panem but it’s so different. There aren’t any peacekeepers or guards and there certainly aren’t any shortages of food. They have all they could ever need and more. It’s like a more wonderful, more normal version of the Capitol. Whilst on my way, I met a girl named Cassie Watson. She’s working in Mexico but she comes here often and has a house so for now, I’m staying with her. When she leaves Mexico in two weeks, she’s going to Switzerland and she’s invited me to go with her so I’ll be headed there. If you need to send any letters to me, send them first class postmarked,

“I’m leaving.” I say, as soon as I’ve finished reading.

“What?!” My mother shouts, coming in as I finish my sentence.

“I’m leaving. Annie’s in Mexico and she’s going to be there for two weeks. I can get there in a week at the most and I’ll still have a week to find Annie before she goes to Switzerland.”

“What if she won’t come back?” My mother asks.

“I’ll go with her to Switzerland.” I say.

“And then?”

“Wherever she wants to go. I’ll get her back before Christmas though. I promise.” I say.

My mother nods. “Fine. Make sure you write though.”

I nod.

“Should I ask Finn if he wants to go with you? It’s a long journey to make alone and I’d rather know that you’re safe and not travelling alone.” Jennifer says.

I shrug. “Why not? He can only help.”

Jennifer nods. “I’ll send him round this afternoon ready to go.”

I nod. “Thanks Jennifer.”

She smiles. “Good luck and thank you Finnick.”

Two hours later, Finn is standing on the doorstep lugging a suitcase, a big backpack and a satchel with him.

I smile.

“Ready to go?” Finn asks.

I nod and pull my backpack and leather bag out of the house before we walk to the train station.

We walk in silence for a while before I decide to talk.

“You know my sister’s sorry right?” I ask.

He nods. “I know. And I forgive her. But I can’t just forget what she tried to do.”

I nod. “It’s none of my business. I’m just saying.”

Finn nods.

“You know when you ran away? Did you go to find me?” I ask.

He shrugs. “I was confused. I was sick of seeing my sister crying, your sister crying, everyone walking around as if they had the world’s weight on their shoulders. I wanted to get away from it all. Clear my head and maybe in the process, I’d find you. Not forgetting, at that time, everyone thought you were dead.”

I nod. “I know. I was just curious.”

Finn nods. “You know she fell apart when you disappeared.”

“Who, Annie?”

Finn nods. “She was a wreck. And of course the baby didn’t help.”

“She wasn’t much better when you left. But she told me and everything looked like it was going to work out. But then obviously everything with Rue. She told you right?” I ask.

“Told me what?” Finn asks.

“About the baby.”

Finn nods. “Of course she told me.”

I nod. “Now let’s go find Annie.”

Finn nods and we board the train.

It seems like it's been ages getting to chapter 10! Last time, we got there much faster. Anyway, we're here now!

By the way, since I'm really curious and I never asked before, who do you prefer, Peeta or Gale?!

I was Team Peeta the first time I read the books but then in Mockingjay, I switched to Team Gale and then my friend was obsessed with Peeta and we used to tease each other but I recently re-read the series and I'm now Team Peeta/Gale.
