[Dom]

I leave the restaurant as calmly as I can. My stomach grumbling from the disappointment of no lunch. God I'm in trouble. No wonder the old man never introduced us. He knew me far too well. There is no way I could have kept away from her. She is the most beautiful creature I have ever seen. My feet pound the pavement as I make my way towards a sports bar I know a few blocks away that does a good lunch deal. I wished I'd asked her to join me. Fucking idiot that I am.

I wish I had kept my cool. Slamming my fist on the table scared her, now she no doubt thinks I'm an oaf. Some kind of unsophisticated commoner. But her apology sent my mind wild. She didn't have to apologise, it was me who should have. She's probably had guys after her money since she was a kid. Why would she think I was any different? But I am, I want her to have it all. It's the right thing to do and it's what her father would have wished for.

I can't believe I walked out of there. I couldn't think of how I could recover the conversation after she said sorry. I wish I'd stayed. You fucking fool. Those dam heels, the moment I heard them clipping against the floor and then those tight jeans, the way they hugged her hips and ass and that tiny delicate waist. She couldn't have been much more than five-four in those heels so she's petite in the most perfect way. I kept trying to play it cool but no doubt failed miserably. Her long chocolate wavy hair only made me think of her naked bouncing up and down above me. And those pert soft lips, how much I wanted to run my thumb along them. It took all my will not to walk out there with a hard-on. She was a goddess and totally out of my league. She wouldn't so much as register me on a street if we collided with one another. Though I was sure she blushed a few times when I saw her looking at me with those adorable big brown eyes. I could look into those eyes forever. To me she was perfect. Man, I'm totally fucked!

I see from the corner of my eye a large black Range Rover trailing me. I'm sure I saw it outside the restaurant earlier. It looked like the one the old man went about in with Donovan, that scary beast of a man he had as his head of security. The same dude who I thought might jump me in the back of the car the first time I met with the old man. He didn't like me, didn't trust me for some reason, though I was sure I'd never given him one. The car slowed down beside me and the back window opened. Instinct and growing up in a rough neighborhood told me to duck. I threw myself to the floor covered my head with my hands. I hadn't had any trouble from anyone for years but the way I'd been throwing cash around the past few nights and drinking like a fish there was a good chance I had a few debts I may have forgotten to settle. Though I was sure I'd returned home both nights with more money than I had taken from my bank account.

I heard the sound of two heels drop beside my face.

"Dom are you okay? Dom do you need help." It was the angel's voice. And I was face down on a dirty sidewalk looking like the prick I was. How the hell could I get myself out of this?

I looked up to see her face etched with concern. She bent down and offered me her tiny hand as if she could lift me, she was sweet though for trying. Donovan grabbed me by the shoulders and yanked me up.

"Um ... Thanks." He nodded clearly knowing why I had fallen to the floor. But I was sure I saw a smirk on his face as he returned to the car. I guess I deserved that.

"Dom are you sure you're ok?" Her hands were on my shoulders, her face close to mine with her eyes searching for reassurance. God, I wanted to kiss her right now.

"Yeah fine, must have caught my foot on something." She didn't look convinced by thankfully accepted my excuse.

"I ... I wondered where you were going and wanted to offer you a lift. It looks like rain." Her face was hopeful. How could she be so nice to me, so sweet? I didn't deserve it after walking out on her at the restaurant.

I hesitated. The sports bar was a bit rough. Not somewhere she'd go in a million years. I didn't want her to think I hung out in dives like that.

"Sorry, that's so rude of me to ask. I only wanted to offer you a lift. No doubt you're meeting your girlfriend or date." What? Why would she think that? I had neither of those planned. The truth was apart from a few work buddies I was kind of a loner. I so desperately wanted a better life for Ma and me that all I'd done these past ten years was work. I was so fearful of getting involved with the wrong people. I was like a magnet for trouble.

"I'll leave you then, sorry again I didn't mean to pry." She started walking to the car when I grabbed her hand. It was so small and soft in mine. She didn't flinch as I had expected her to, just turned around with curiosity.

"No girlfriend and no date. You?" And she shook her head. Oh, thank god. The idea of some guy putting his hands on her made me mad as hell. No one should touch her. She was too precious. Too perfect.

"I was gonna grab some food." She smiled.

"Can I join? I'm starving. I kind of hoped you would have stayed for lunch." There was just a hint of disappointment in her voice. But it was enough to give me hope. Just a smidgen of hope that I had some ridiculous chance of her liking me. Even if it was platonic I'd take it.

"Of course." I tried to measure the excitement and sheer delight in my response. But I was sure I failed as she gave me a beaming smile.

"Hop in. Donavan can take us there."

"I'm not sure it's the kind of establishment he'd approve of you going to." Her face dropped.

"Were you off to a strip bar?" The upset was visible on her face. What the hell? How had she come up with that? I couldn't help but laugh which seemed to surprise her.

"Are you kidding? Ha. No, I was on my way to a sports bar that's why I didn't think you'd like it." Her shoulders relaxed and that megawatt smile was back.

"Oh. No that sounds good. I love beer, do they have burgers too?" Her innocence and childlike excitement and enthusiasm were infectious.

"Yep but I'm warning you it's a bit rough around the edges." She opened the car door pulled herself up onto the seat and gestured for me to join her.
