Kaija
Sitting down at a bench on the far side of the park, I start to adjust the sandals on my feet. Suddenly I hear a loud squeal. Looking up I see a young girl, about 12 years old, shaking near the water fountain. Next to her were two older guys, maybe 17, and one was soaked in water while the other was crippled over with laughter.
"I'm- I'm sorry. I told you to leave me alone."
Trying to make a hasty retreat, our eyes caught and I could see the nerves swimming through her bright blue irises. Her honey tinted skin became devoid of color as she started to shake slightly. I think I've seen her at the shelter. Before the girl could gain much distance, the guy who was soaked grabbed a hold of her long blond hair and then gripped her arm yanking her back in front of him.
"Nuh huh. You're gonna pay for this. Cause no girl is gonna dis me, spray me with water and think she can just dip. That's not how this works."
As water dripped from his brown hair onto his pale skin, you could see the red in his eyes. I was shook. His friend then started for the girl's other side, almost blocking her from public view. Cracking his knuckles he chuckled,
"Well this should be fun."
Not being able to walk away, I tapped on the guys on the shoulders, and they turned towards me in a slight panic.
"Excuse me but I don't think she wants to play with you."
Stepping back they looked at me with the side eye.
First thing I gotta do is get his hands off of her.
"Back off gypsy," The other guy said, crossing his large arms in defiance. "This got nothing to do with you."
"Oh but I think it does, can't just let you and water boy over here go two-to-one against a girl, can I? Besides, you might want to towel that one off before he starts smelling like wet dog."
I shove my finger into the chest of the wet one and he bucks forward, effectively releasing the girl's arm.
Gotcha.
"Hey!"
Once he realizes what he's done, he turns around and while he's distracted I swiftly kick behind the knees. As the other guys tries to grab for me, I slip under his arms, quickly elbow him in the base of his spine and kick him in the back forcing him to land on his face. Turning towards the girl I yell,
"Go! Now!"
She nods, then runs off towards the evening sun. Turning my attention back to the guys behind me, I see two more run up trying to help them. Water boy turns around and points at me with a seething hiss.
"Get her."
Uh oh.
