Damian
Upon opening my eyes I am met with a cerulean blue sky. As the sun shines through the glass skylight above my bed I start to recollect the events of last night. Closing my eyes, I hear the little pitter patter of feet enter my room and then a sudden weight land on my stomach.
Man, 6 year olds sure are heavy.
"Damian." She coos. "Damian, haste manana."
Crossing her arms, I feel her beginning to pout and I try not to laugh while keeping my eyes shut.
"Wake. Up."
Attempting to pry my eyes open with her tiny fist, I jump up causing her to squeal. I then pick the little angel up, twirl her around and start tickling her sides causing dark brown curls to bounce everywhere.
"Liillyyy!!!"
Shrieking, she tries to wiggle out of my embrace as I blow raspberries on her tummy.
Giggling wildly, we make our way to the kitchen.
"Mi'jo, put your sister down and come eat. It's already noon."
Once in the kitchen, I see Mama fixing breakfast and Cortez at the table stuffing his face. After she kisses me on the cheek, I put Lilly down and she runs away to hug Cortez.
Traitor.
Shaking my head, I walk over to Mama and place a kiss on her cheek while grabbing the plate she made.
"Lilly, would you go get your brothers? I already spoke to them once, I am not telling them again."
As Lilly hops out of the kitchen, I see Cortez continuing to shove his face with scrambled eggs, chorizo and Mama's famous churro muffins. Sitting down I stare at him.
"Oiy, why are you here so early?"
Finding the opportunity to breath, Cortez puts his hand over his heart.
"Why I'm here to claim my share of Tia's Famous Churro Muffins, a wonderful twist to our Mexican dessert. Don't be selfish Damian."
Shaking my head, Mama comes over and offers him more muffins.
"You can have as many as you want sobrino."
"Gracias, Aunt Sophia."
"De nada." She says kissing his forehead. Looking in my direction she tousles my hair with a slight frown.
"Mi'jo, when are you going to cut your hair? It's already passed your shoulders."
"No, tia," Cortez cuts in wiggling his eyebrows, "let him keep it. It'll drive all the chulas loco." Winking, he tries to duck before Mama smacks him in the head with a kitchen towel.
"Cortez!" Giving him the eye, she shakes her head before she walking away. Laughing, Cortez then turns to me.
"Speaking of girls, while we were out looking for you last night we found out about this new club that just opened up. They're guaranteed to attract all types of bodacious bonitas. So, you in?" He ask leaning in close. I shake my head.
"Something's really wrong with you, you know that?"
He just shrugs then looks back at me expectantly.
I took a quick glance towards Mama as she was starting to clean up the kitchen before shifting my gaze back to Cortez.
"The twins coming?"
"You know it."
Smirking I lean back,
"Alright, I'm in."
