Dark Blue

The mysterious dark blue
That only ever seems to appear in paintings
The lake was that color last night
The moon was out too
Clouds beneath it glowing with its light
Sending a streak of delight down the lake
A streak of white within the blue

And I was there too
On the shore
Behind a copse of trees
Huddled in a blanket
Just warm enough in the wind
Listening to the waves
As they died upon the rocks

I was there for some peace of mind
And it was so close to being ideal
So close

The reason being
There was an empty chair beside me
And as I cast that chair a glance
I couldn't help but think
How perfect the night would have been
If you were next to me

I closed my eyes and imagined
I slipped into a world
Where we were together again
In the dark blue night
And as the waves died upon the rocks
Our friendship
Would never meet the same fate
As the waves
