"There's no way I'm ever going to stop loving you, (Y/N)."• • •
You and Mark were laying on the carpeted floor of your living room, staring up at the white ceiling. You both were laying next to each other, hand in hand. For the past two hours, you guys have been discussing deep philosophical topics.
"Do you really think aliens exist?" You asked Mark. Mark replied;
"Of course! Do you really think that we are the only form of existence in the thousands of existing galaxies?" Mark asked you. "There has to be something else out there. I mean, Buzz Lightyear says 'To infinity and beyond' right?" He said. You stared at the ceiling, as if you were looking into infinity.
"Do you understand the concept of infinity?" You asked.
"What do you mean?"
"Well, we use the term loosely so much however, we barely know even understand the definition in itself. It's strange..." You say.
It goes silent for a while, and during those moments you and Mark continue to stare up at the ceiling.
"Maybe love?" Mark questioned. You clenched your face, making the most confused look ever. "Love?" You repeated, hoping for an explanation that wasn't so complicated. There was another moment of silence. You looked over at Mark, who was trying to make sense of his own theory. "Maybe love is how we can explain infinity." He said, trying to grasp on to some sort of sense. "When your love has no limits, when it goes on forever. Maybe that feels like infinity."
You looked over at Mark, who was staring blankly into nothing. You smiled at him, feeling he was talking about his love for you. "Yeah, maybe." You said with a bit more tone in your voice. You stared at him a bit more, his face somehow glowing in the dimmed lighting. "My love for you will definitely go on for infinity." You said to him. This made him smile.
"Yeah? Same here." He said. "There's no way I'm ever going to stop loving you, (Y/N)." He said as he stared back at you. You shot him a smile as you turned your head to face the ceiling again. You took a deep sigh.
"How are you feeling?" He asked. "We've been talking all deep for a while now. Feeling existential yet?" He chuckled. You shook your head no. "No. I'm actually feeling the opposite of that. I feel... fucking amazing." You beamed, feeling exactly as you said you were. "I don't feel anxious as I normally would when we have these types of talks. What about you?" You asked him. "I feel so peaceful talking about things like this. Like I can take on the world. I've never really felt this way before."
"Do you think it's the topic of conversation?"
"No... I think I've always had these feelings hidden somewhere. I feel like it just takes a lot for them to come out."
"So a deep conversation about the infinite universe is all it takes?"
Mark chuckled. "Pretty much. Let's change the topic though. I need something deeper." You lay there quiet for a bit, trying to think of deeper questions.
"Do you think we have a soul?" You asked.
"Well, I sure hope so." Mark laughed.
"Who built the pyramids?"
"Pretty sure the Egypti-"
"If you can see into the future, would you want to look at your own future?" You asked, finally getting onto something.
"Yes. No. Wait, actually..." Mark said, stumped. "No." He finally said.
"That's your final answer?" You asked. Mark thought about it. "Well, it depends. Am I allowed to change the future? Because if I see myself becoming unsuccessful and I can't do anything about it then that's just a bunch of anxiety." It once again fell silent in the living room, and the both of you continued to stare at the ceiling when you finally said;
"You can always change the future."
Mark looked at you, smiling. You smiled back at him, looking into his deep, brown eyes. "What, you don't believe in destiny?" He asked you.
"I believe in destiny, I just think things can be altered."
"Do you think you and I were destiny?" Mark asked, tightening his grip around your hand. Your smile grew wider. "I don't think we were meant to be. I think we just happened. We were probably meant to be with other people, but we changed that. And now this, us, we're meant to be."
"Wow. I like that even better than destiny." He said.
You sat up from the floor, as well as Mark. You looked deep into his eyes;
"I will love you for infinity."
"And I will love you way beyond that." Mark replied.
With that said, Mark leaned in and placed a soft kiss on your lips.
