I Want You to Want Me

Riley’s POV:

The guys, Cassidy, and Tayler were already downstairs getting ready to start band practice. I was upstairs in the kitchen grabbing a water bottle out of the fridge before practice started.

“Hey mom?” I asked while going into the living room where she was reading a book.

“Yeah?”

“I’m expecting two more friends to come over in a little while. I would wait up here but the guys are waiting on me to start practicing. Is that okay?”

“Yeah, that’s fine! Go on, I’ll send them down when they get here.”

“Thanks!”

I ran downstairs to see Connor, Braiden, and Thomas getting set up. Cassidy and Tayler were just sitting and talking. Then there was Toby over in the corner taking pictures of random things for Instagram. Shocker.

“Rilina where’s your girly friend?” Connor joked.

“Girlfriend?!” Thomas and Braiden both chimed in together.

“She’s not my girlfriend. She’s just a friend. She’ll be here soon. She’s picking up her friend Dyanna. She didn’t want me to be late. So can we just get started?” I looked away and took a sip out of my water bottle trying to avoid it being awkward.

“A girl that you kissed…” Connor punched me in the arm lightly.

“You kissed her? Who is she?! Come on, give us details!” Cassidy joined the conversation.

“There are no details. She’s just a girl that I met. She’s got the prettiest eyes that are a mix of hazel and brown. It’s hard to explain. I got lost in her words whenever she speaks. She’s…different.” I snapped out of it after realizing everything that I was saying so that everyone around could hear.

“You’ve got it bad.” Braiden laughed.

“He’s right. Why don’t you just ask her out? It can’t be that hard.” Thomas added.

“It’s…complicated. I don’t think she even likes me.” I trailed off some while looking at my feet.

“Why would she kiss you if she doesn’t like you?” Connor asked.

“You know that it’s complicated. Can we please just start now?” I begged.

“You’re right. Let’s just start.”

This was exactly what I was trying to avoid. I didn’t want things to get weird but that’s what would probably happen. Thomas grabbed his drum sticks and walked over to his drums while Connor and Braiden grabbed their guitars. The whole time we were practicing I was being stared at. I knew that I liked Kenzie. I just didn’t want to make things even more complicated for her than they were already. That was the last thing that she needed to deal with.
