chapter eight! carter meets the new teacher
.・:*:・゚'✫,'✫'゚・:*:・˙
sometime on sunday!
The brisk winds of September air filled the city. It was one of Carter's favorite seasons. Washington Square Park was famous for the pearl white arch and fountain within the lower cusp of Greenwich Village. From a bird's eye view, it sat in between the West Village and the East Village, with Greenwich Village to the north and Soho to the south. New York University buildings surrounded the border of the park, making it a default hang out spot for college kids.
It also made for a great hangout spot.
"Okay, Carter," Farkle said from his spot in the grass beside her. "Our house is burning down and you can save your hot dog, or me. What do you choose?"
"Farkle, that's not fair." Carter gave him a look like the choice was obvious. "The hot dog doesn't have legs."
Farkle knocked Carter's shoulder with his hand and lightly pushed her into the grass. She responded by giving him a not-so-nice gesture with her finger. The rest of their friends broke out in laughter.
Riley, Maya, Lucas, Zay, Farkle, and Carter all decided to have an 'outside day' where they don't spend any time in Topanga's or anyone's apartment. After spending years cooped up in the penthouse, Carter was just fine with it.
"Peaches, did you want some crackers?" Riley offered, holding out a Ritz box.
"But of course!" Maya joked.
The three girls had scoured Pinterest on friday night looking for picnic day inspiration to replicate the cute, little pictures they'd seen. Then proceeded to make the boys pick all the groceries up and meet them in the park so they didn't have to carry anything.
Carter brought a seriously comfortable white embroidered sheet to let them lay on, Maya brought the fairy lights from her room, and Riley had an antique picnic basket and folding table.
"I've never felt cuter eating salami before," Zay remarked.
Surprisingly, Zay was the first to embrace the girl's ideas. Farkle came second, solely because Carter insisted that she'd make him a small pasta salad to eat instead of salami. Lucas fought the idea of sitting down for a girly picnic almost the entirety of the way there, until he realized how hungry he was and he had no better ideas on how to spend their weekend.
"As much as I fought this, I'm actually having a good time," Lucas admitted. "Thanks for showing me New York nature, guys."
"See, Huckleberry?" Maya taunted. "The city life isn't so bad if you stop and smell the subway."
