The door closes with a faint sound.
He didn't believe me.
I breath in, turning my head to look at Amber who's till standing by the counter, eyes wide and mouth slightly open.
"You weren't going to tell me, were you?'' she asks, looking at me.
It feels as if all air has been sucked out of the room, leaving me struggling with something as basic as breathing.
What I thought was real and what I knew wasn't has blurred together and I can no longer tell them apart. The line got erased when he caught my eyes and I saw what he thought of me.
"What was that about?" Amber tries again. "Do you know him?"
Far from, my subconscious tells me. If it wasn't for my pounding heart, I'd think I made the whole thing up in my head.
"No, I just.." I hesitate. I don't know what to say. She wants to know everything there is from how we met to how we got here, but honestly, I don't even know myself and it doesn't matter anymore. Five days was all it was.
Why does it hurt though.
It's selfish, even to think, but I really wish he would've believed me.
''There he is,'' Amber states while leaning over one of the tables to see through the window.
I surprise myself by walking over to her. ''Where?'' I ask and search the crowded street, my eyes falling on everything besides the one thing I'm looking for. Cars, people, more people. I spot an old man on the sidewalk playing guitar. He, just like I seem to find ourselves in our own worlds. His is outside the laundromat with his guitar, mine is on this side of the window.
A car honks, bringing my attention to the man in the middle of the road.
Before I know what I'm doing, I've moved thorough the small shop and towards the door. The small bell rings when I push my weight against the wooden door before the sound of its shutting is heard.
Amber is shouting something after me but I can't make it out as I've already left her side.
"Hey!" I shout, trying to get his attention. He keeps walking, his back turned towards me. "Channing!" I try again.
As soon as his name has left my lips, he turns around.
I don't know what I'm doing.
He watches as cars now are stopping for me, honking when the drivers hit the brake.
I look around my surrounding before my gaze stop on him. He's standing a few meters away, waiting for me to say something.
"I promised." I breath out, my hair messily flying in the wind. "I promised you."
He looks away from me.
"To me, that means something." I pause. "I am so sorry that this happened. If I could, I would probably put the blame on someone so I could be angry at a person instead of the problem, but I don't think that's possible." I say, the meaning behind it directed at him.
"I can see why you'd think it's my fault, I would too if I didn't know that I keep the promises I make and the way I look at love goes further than this." A small smile shapes my lips when the thought of our drunk conversation crosses my mind. "I'm truly sorry Channing, I am, but don't be angry at me. You don't know me."This time, I'm the one turning around to walk away, leaving him to stand in the middle of the busy street.
