Tails smiled and went to the kitchen. "Time for a lovebirds lunch."

Sonic grinned. "A lovebirds lunch? Sounds delicious."

"You said that already." Tails giggled. "I was half expecting you to ask what's cookin' good lookin'?"

"Well, I'm forgetful." Sonic grinned. "Sooooo what's cookin' good lookin'?" He said laughing and trying to take a peek.

"I've told you already." Tails knocked on Sonic's head. "Grilled cheese and tomato soup. You are forgetful."

"I'm sorry I'm mesmerized by something," Sonic said looking into the fox's eyes with a grin. "What kind of cheese shall I expect on this exquisite grill cheese?" Sonic said giggling.

"Whichever you want. I was going to use American, but I can use whatever, like sharp cheddar or something." Tails responded.

Sonic smirked. "Whichever is fine by me." He rested his hand on his fist as he watched the fox.

Tails ears perked, hearing something from his workshop.

Sonic listened. "That's strange." He mumbled getting up to investigate.

"Let me." Tails ran in front. "Wait outside."

Sonic followed close behind anyhow. "I'm not leaving you alone. Not ever again." Sonic knew he was hinting at something else but still he couldn't bear the thought of anything happening to Tails...

Tails slipped and fell on some spilled oil. "Owie..." He rubbed his rear.

"You okay?" Sonic said extending a hand.

"Yeah...But I'm sure I'll feel that in the morning." Tails gave a pun. He looked for the source of the oil spill but saw no can.

"Hah hah," Sonic said grinning. "What could have of caused that anyway?" Sonic said looking around.

Tails looked up and saw a black figure on the ceiling. Next thing he knew, all he could see was black. Metal Sonic showed himself, knocked Tails out, pushed Sonic aside, and flew out with Tails.

Sonic got up quick. "Dang it!!!" He ran out of the hanger watching the small blue figurine get farther in the distance. "I don't think so!!" Sonic began running towards the evil mechanical clone.

Tails was still knocked out. Metal Sonic flew towards the volcano.

Sonic ran as fast as he could. Worry filling his body. He kept up with his the evil robot.

Metal Sonic halted above the volcano crater, where lava could be seen below.

Sonic halted on the edge of the volcano looking up. "What the heck are you doing!?" He yelled at the blue clone.

"Give me the chaos emeralds, and I'll spare your friend. Don't and he'll die." He thrust forward an empty hand.

Sonic looked at his rival. No one messed with Tails. It wasn't worth the risk of losing Tails. Tails was worth more than some emeralds..."Fine." Sonic said calmly.

Metal Sonic waited for the emeralds, while Tails was still knocked out.

Sonic took a shaking hand and took his shoe off. He gently shook it until an emerald fell out.

Metal took the first and put it in his chest cavity. He waited for the second, Tails began to come back around.

Sonic looked at the lava below. He took off his other shoe and grabbed the emerald. He held it over the lava. "Give me Tails slowly or the emerald goes." Sonic threatened holding the emerald by his thumb and index finger. He had tears at the corner of his eyes but he had to be strong.

Metal Sonic let loose a finger that was holding Tails. "Not a good idea. If you throw it, I will go after it with your friend. I can't guarantee I won't let go." He threatened.

Sonic knew there was only one other option. "If you don't leave Tails out of it...then I have only one other option." He clutched the emerald tightly in his hand. He looked at the lava below. He held the emerald to his chest. He began to lean forward...close to losing his balance over the edge. It was a sacrifice worth taking...

Tails awoke and saw his love begin to fall. "SONIC!!" He yelled.

Sonic looked up startled...he lost his footing, and fell over the edge. The emerald and him both falling to a moat gruesome finish.

Tails struggled in Metal's grip. He felt helpless. Just then the volcano began to smoke, obscuring the view. "Error...error..." Metal Sonic glitched out.
