The door to the Boarding House flew open, and Elena ran inside, looking wildly around for me.

I was sitting in an armchair with one leg across my lap.

"Are you okay?" she cried walking over and putting her hand on my neck to make sure there was no bite. I didn't say anything; I just removed her hand from my neck.

"Sit down," I said. The worry in her face amplified and she looked a little hurt.

"Where is Caroline?" She wondered, sitting down and keeping her hands in her lap.

"Taking care of the woman that attacked me." I stood and started to pace in front of her. "Would you like to explain to me why you didn't tell me you saw this."

She paused, "Caroline said-"

"I know what Caroline said. Why didn't you tell me?" I inquired, stopping to stare at her.

"I-I honestly thought you would blow it off again." Her eyes flicked down to her hands in her lap.

"Blow it off?" I clamored, "I have never blown off anything that you have told me!"

"Yes, you have! She retaliated, "When I tell you I saw something you tell me not to worry about!" She was standing now and was maybe a foot away from me.

"That was only what you told me on Christmas Eve, if you have told me about this I would have been better prepared; I would have been able to help!" I growled.

She looked like she was thinking, but the anger on her face stayed. "I just didn't...ugh I just wasn't sure!" She said exasperated, throwing her hands in the air and turning away from me.

"Look," I took a step forward and grabbed her arm to turn her around and face me, "I didn't mean to come off rude, it's just...you should have told me. Of course, I take it seriously Elena, but this is something I don't know how to handle, something I don't understand. I take in what you give me and try to figure it out. You should always tell me when there's something wrong or something important; that's how this works."

Liar. Hypocrite. My head spoke. I tried to deviate from the thought, but it lingered. What you're not telling her will crush her if she finds out.

She's not going to find out! There's no reason that will come to light again. It's over. I told myself sharply.

"I'm sorry, you're right. I should have just told you. I'm just getting scared that's all."

I wrapped my arms around her and pulled her closer to me. "I know, I don't blame you. Honestly, I'm scared too; but we can do this together."

She nodded against me, and I kissed the top of her head. I looked up and saw Caroline standing there smiling.

"She's gone." She stated, noticing me staring at her.

Elena pulled away and looked towards her, "Thank you."

"Of course babe! Anything for my brother and best friend/soon-to-be Sister-in-law."

"What?" I queried.

"Well...I'm assuming that's what that rings means. We have all seen it, no one has mentioned it though. We all thought it was obvious."

I looked down at Elena, and she shrugged. "You guys are so cute; such goals!" Caroline smirked. "I think I am gonna go find Tyler." She skipped over, kissed Elena on the cheek and ruffled my hair.

"See you two lovebirds later!"

Elena

I felt awful about not telling Stefan the truth. It was a childish fear that I shouldn't have listened to in the first place.
