Stefan's POV
I rolled over half expecting to roll onto my other pillow on the side of my bed but I hit the side of the recliner instead. I groaned and sat up.I saw her lying there breathing steadily. Good, I thought and looked at the time. It was 6:33. I sighed, 2 hours of sleep was not going to be enough for today. I thought inwardly and got up stretching, I grabbed my phone and looked at the message I got from Elena that I refused to look at last night.
It felt like I couldn't breathe as I opened it; I was afraid of what it was going to say. Was she going to tell me she couldn't handle this and that I needed to leave her alone? But as I read it, it was something completely different.
I froze with my thumb on the reply button. What? How could she say that this wasn't my fault? If I wouldn't have stayed, Damon would have followed me and then he wouldn't have turned Caroline.
It was my fault. She should leave me! But at the same time I prayed that she wouldn't, because if she did, I wouldn't have been able to handle it. I would never be the same again. I finally worked up the courage to click the reply button.
I love you. I sent that and then sat down by Caroline. When she wakes up I will have a lot of work to do.
Elena's POV
My dream was peaceful despite the events that had happened during the day. It was simple, just Stefan and I in a beautiful meadow. We were lying there and holding hands. That was all we needed; each other. I turned over in my sleep and heard footsteps in my room.
I opened my eyes thinking to see Alaric, but it was someone else instead; holding what looked like a butcher knife.
