Jeremy's POV

I cried with Elena on the roof for a long time. I just kept telling her that no matter what, she was my sister.

After a while, she sat up and wiped her face. "We'd better go back down or they're going to start freaking out," she said in a slightly hoarse voice.

I nodded and helped her back into the house. I slipped in behind her. We were stood in the middle of the room, where she hugged me tightly one more time.

"I love you Jeremy," she said softly, her voice muffled by my shirt as she was pressing her face into my chest.

I smiled and kissed her hair. "I love you too sis."

She let me go and disappeared from my sight, returning to her bedroom. I followed in suit and went to my room. Halfway down the hallway, I hear my dad call me. I really didn't want to deal with him right now but I knew that the best thing to do was go to him.

He was in the kitchen. I met his eyes and he sighed heavily, staring back at me.

"She told you, didn't she?" he asked. It was probably evident on my face.

I nodded, keeping silent.

Another sigh escaped him and he placed a hand on my shoulder. "Look," he started slowly, "they are reasons for why we didn't tell you. But you have to know, that we are so sorry.

I wanted to stay mad at him, but he was my dad, no matter what, he was still family.

"Anyways, I just wanted you to have this." He puts his hand into his pocket and plucks out a small ring. He places it in the center of my palm.

The ring had an eagle spread out on it, which was the family crest. "Your grandpa wore this ring a lot and he always said he could escape death wearing the damn thing," Dad explained. "Until he gave it to me that is and, and now I'm giving it to you."

"Thanks," I mumbled, not sure of what else to say. I slipped the ring onto my middle finger and flexed my hand.

He nodded a fatherly nod and left the kitchen. I didn't realize that Jenna had entered the kitchen until I heard a sniffle. I looked up to see her with her puffy, red eyes. I wanted to hug her, but I couldn't for the life of me work up the courage to.

She glanced down at the ring. "Hmm, that kind of looks like Alaric's ring except his has a lion on it." I furrowed my brow and walked back to my room.

Elena's POV

I was completely cried out.

I just sat there on my bed, staring at everything but not focusing on anything. The doorbell rang but I couldn't face anyone yet, maybe not for a long time.

I prayed that it was Stefan coming up; I could do with his support. The knock on my door was loud, as though the person on the other side of the door was trying to break it down. That wasn't how Stefan knocked, ever.

I opened the door and was greeted by the last person I wanted to see today: Damon.

"What do you want?" I snapped.

He ignored me, and stumbled into the room. He looked slightly confused to what he was doing in my room.

"Have you been drinking?" I demanded to know.
