"It's hard to wake up from a nightmare if you aren't even asleep."
- J.S.
Brileigh looked over at her sister's bed when she woke up with a start. Something was out of place, or at least she thought and she was scared. She hoped, she had had a nightmare and was imagining things right now. The hope diminished as soon as she saw the wide eyes of her sister peer back in the faint light of the moon.
Kymme got up from her bed and started for the door. "Where are you going?" Brileigh asked in a panic. Her twin sister didn't respond and she scrambled out of bed to go after her. "Kymme, what are you doing?" Brileigh's panic rose even more when she stepped out of their room and heard noise coming from down the stairs. Not the regular faint shuffling from their parents as they quietly walked and talked as to not wake them. No, this sounded as though there was some sort of struggle.
No need to panic, she thought. Perhaps... her mind drew to a blank. No reason came to mind why she would hear a struggle ensuing. No matter, she still walked down the stairs.
As her mind took in the side before her, her mind stopped working. It was as though it had gone numb, mum. Unable to process what she was seeing before her.
Before she could do something, she heard a scream. As in a dream, she turned her head. Kymme was screaming in horror. Brileigh had passed her sister on the stairs. She should have stopped her sister from stepping out. Kymme always had more difficulties with keeping her composure.
It was a mistake indeed, when her mind had come out of its initial shock of seeing the dead bodies of their parents. Their necks sliced open, almost decapitated. Mouths and eyes wide open in silent screams of horror, fear and pain. Their corpses lying on the ground surrounded by a pool of black blood with only faint traces of silver. But she never noticed that, she never noticed the wrong colouring of the blood. Her tired, traumatized mind settled on three other persons.
The two closest to them were two boys. They were feral, but gorgeous nonetheless. One had vivid blue eyes while the other had dark brown ones. Both however had very dark burgundy brown hair, almost black. The one with the blue eyes had it short, the other in a medium length. The one with the dark brown eyes had a flawless skin, while the other had freckles. Both were very masculine for their age. They looked like 12-13 year olds. Brileigh assumed both were Dark. She did not believe any person of Light could do such a thing. For surely the two young boys had killed their parents.
The third person was their sister. She was somewhat hidden behind the frames of the two strangers. She was barefoot in a silk nightgown standing in their parent's blood. Trying to keep two strange boys away from her with a fire poke.
Only now, they had agerted their attention to the newcomers. Them. Brileigh swallowed terrified and pulled her sister who was heaving in shock, eyes still trained on the dead bodies, behind her.
