"That moment when you can actually feel the pain in your chest from seeing or hearing something that breaks your heart."
-Unknown
He was drowning in her waves of agony. Once her bedchambers had proven to be empty, Commander Eamon had sounded the alarm. Palace guards were looking for her everywhere. His heart was constricting with each breath he took. Like a broken rib, invisible, but constricting every time he ought to breath. He could not think and he supposed the same was for her because he could not hear a single thought, he could only feel. It was horrible, the pain was so grave he thought he would die. Eamon was pushing him to get her whereabouts out of her thoughts, but every time he tried he could only see stark darkness.
It was already five in the morning when the pain slowly started to dim. Ajax felt as though she was pushing it to the back of her mind and focusing.
She was dreaming once more, he knew it for he felt her mind relax. What he saw though, was what hurt him most. Him, he saw himself with a cruel smile ripping apart her innocent life. She dreamt about their encounter six years ago and the pain started swelling once more. However, was she surviving this?
He knew what it was like to have nightmares every night, but they never hurt him this much.
"She's sleeping." His voice was hoarse from the pain, not only from her emotional pain but from clawing at his chest trying to rip the pain away - rip his heart out. For that was where all the pain seemed to be coming from.
It was a selfish thought. How was he to leave his soulmate to endure this alone? Especially when he was the culprit, the root of this agony? What would it make him if he stooped to that level of unthoughtfulness?
He zoned out the only thing apparent to him her nightmare, the fear she felt for him. The bleeding of their hearts. It felt as though his heart was in a vice grip that kept getting tighter - squeezing his life force from it. He was hurting her. He was hurting his soulmate. His strong warrior was bleeding out because of him. However, could he ever be good for her if this was the effect he had on her?
He stood lifeless, staring in Eamon's eyes as the pain of what he'd done to her soul loomed over him, ready to haunt him. He ought to make this right. He ought to fix this and then he ought to leave her alone for he only hurt her.
