The wind whistled through her ears, the grass itched her skin. This awakened the girl from her slumber. Dark eyelids opened to reveal even darker eyes, shallow breathes escaped her. Struggling, she lifted herself up, her arms trembling. Her muscles were sore, everything hurt, she almost couldn't sit up. She turned her aching neck to scan her surroundings. Lying next to her was something bleach white, it glowed against the dark background, like one cars headlights on a abandoned road.
Slowly she crept towards the item. When her hands finally reached it, she felt a smooth surface. She lifted the item towards herself. The thing had two gaping holes parallel to each other, with something pointed sticking out in the middle. It was a skull, the skull of a bird. although she was disturbed by the item, out of impulse she put the skull on her head. its seemed right there, and it fit perfectly. She looked around. She was in a clearing in the middle of a forest. The sky was such a dark blue, almost black. There were also so many stars, impossible to count. They reflected on her auburn eyes perfectly, making her eyes seem like the night sky itself. "Beautiful" was the word the came out of her mouth. But then more words started to fill her head, basic words, words the average person hasn't even heard of, all of them. It suffocated her brain.
Painful, but now she could form a sentence. Suddenly stuck with the knowledge that something wasn't right. she said five words.
"What am I doing here?"
Panic started to consume her, she had no idea where she was, who she was, and why she was there. Suddenly what seemed beautiful now seemed sinister. The peaceful silence was now filled with the whispers of the creatures of the night. They were her predators and she was their prey. Fight or flight kicked in and she sprinted out of the clearing, she looked up trying to find the highest tree. She found one that seemed slightly higher than the others and that had branches semi-easy to climb " This'll work." she started to like talking.
She was exasperated and panting. It hurt to climb but she had to push. When she was at the top she could see most of the forest, where the creatures were and where she could go next. Those were thoughts that kept her going, kept her climbing till she reached the very top. Then she felt safe, like she had the advantage. She didn't know was she was running from. but it seemed close, and it seemed scary.
Then she saw it. They were people who looked just like her, walked on two legs. had hair, had skin, had clothes (Although hers were more rags than anything). They both were carrying bags, held flashlights and were alone. Now she had two instincts, stay hidden or ask them for help. She listened to first half. They talked loud, they were large compared to her small structure. They were scary so she stayed in her tree and watched them carefully until they left her vision and she could no longer feel their presence. Suddenly she felt cold and hungry. Everything seemed bad and confusing. She had no idea what to do, so her body naturally fell asleep.
"So she is one of us."
"Are you sure? Then what about her wings?"
"How did she appear again?"
"She fell from the sky, holding the bird skull."
"Alert my brother and mother, tell them the goddess of the prophecy is finally here."
