The game was finally about to start. New vs returning members. A sense of excitement filled (f/n) as she stepped onto the court. Quickly getting into position for the tip off. The rules of organised basketball were still a tad unfamiliar to her, as she had spent most of her time playing street ball. Nonetheless, she had played for a year and was sure it was enough to get by. The center for the first years, a lad named Hayakawa won the tip off and the ball was in (F/n)'s hands. 'Nice.' she thought. 'I admit, offense isn't my strongest point, especially playing against someone like him...' she continued while glancing at Kasamatsu who was guarding her. 'I'll just find an opening and pass' she decided as she dribbled up the court. Her eyes scanned the floor, looking at her teammates, waiting for one to make a move and get open. In her peripheral vision she noted Kasamatsu moving towards the ball in her right hand. Fluidly, she switched the ball, bouncing it behind her back to her left hand. Then she noticed her opportunity. Kise had broken past his check. Quickly she passed the ball between Kasamatsu's legs, connecting with Kise who leaped through the air and jammed the ball into the basket. "Nice one, Kise-kun!" She encouraged him while running back on defense.
"Ahh, thank thank you (l/n)-chan!" Kise called back with a childish smile directed towards her. 'She's adorable!' He thought to himself as he switched from offense. Now (f/n) was in her comfort zone. She watched Kasamatsu as he brought the ball up the court. Her mind shifted into full focus mode, watching him like a hawk. She saw his eyes looking for an option. She saw his arms dribbling, dribbling, dribbling. She noticed the way his fingers slightly changed their position on the ball. 'He'll move the ball right, likely to cross-over.' She realized. With the reaction time of a fly, she reached forward and before he could finish his move, knocked the ball out of his hand.
"FAST BREAK" she yelled as she sprinted up the court, sensing all the other players moving with her. Kasamatsu was right on her, cursing himself for letting her get the ball. Very abruptly she stopped and for a few steps Kasamatsu continued forward. With this perfect opening, she pulled up and did a quick-release jump shot, which fell neatly through the hoop. 'This game is just getting started.' She thought with a grin.
The next half hour was filled with high-paced play, which was one of (f/n)'s favourite ways to play, as she found it kept the game interesting. Through out the entire game, not one shot was made on (F/n). However, she had only given them a taste of her defensive abilities.
"Alright! That's enough for our first practice. Everyone, remember to stretch, and be ready for practice tomorrow." The coach called. A chorus of 'Yes coach!' resounded through the gym. The (h/c) haired girl quickly packed her belongings into a bag and began to head to the doors, but she was stopped by the captain of the team.
"(L-L/n)-kun." He called. She quickly turned around and tilted her head curiously at her upperclassmen.
"Yes, senpai?" She asked curiously. The male flushed more, if that was possible. It was one thing to talk to girls, which he was already horrible at, but to talk pretty girls? Pretty girls that were good at basketball? That was a whole other level. 'She's like the whole package...' he silently thought.
"I-I just wanted to say that you play well, and I- and uh, p-probably the whole..." he began with a stutter and a blush. 'Damn, why is it so hard to talk to her?' he cursed himself "T-the whole team, are glad you c-came today." he admitted. He had never seen someone play defense the way she had. It was almost as if she knew exactly what her opponent was going to do at the same time as them. A huge smile lit up the girls face. Kasamatsu suddenly got even more nervous. It was as if she had gotten even more beautiful just from that smile. She threw her arms around the his waist. Kasamatsu let out a sharp gasp. He had never really hugged a girl before. He began to stutter as he didn't know how to handle the situation.
"Thank you Senpai! It means a lot! Especially coming from a strong player like yourself..." She said and released him from the hug. She watched him stutter a bit more before quickly rushing away to pack up his things. 'He's lovely!' She thought to herself. As she walked out the doors, she could hear Kise and Kasamatsu having a little chat.
"What about me Kasamatsu! Didn't I do good?" She could hear the younger boy ask.
"You fool! Don't go looking for praise, you'll get it when you earn it!" She heard, followed by a smack sound and Kise crying out. "I'll hit you!" She heard her captain call.
"But you already- OUCH!" Kise yelped. She couldn't help but giggle to herself. She liked this new team. They were an exciting bunch. She couldn't wait to start playing in games with them.
