A few weeks had passed since (f/n) had been accepted onto the Kaijo basketball team. In that time period, she had gotten fairly close with all the members of the team. Kise had really attached to her, which was fairly cool, but it was hard to hang out with him because there were always girls trying to get his attention. Nonetheless, she was happy to have made some friends. It was a Wednesday evening, which meant (f/n) didn't have basketball practice and had already finished work. With a bit of time before heading home, she decided to head to the local courts to see if there were any games. The sun was just beginning to sink below the horizon as she put her bag down on the ground. Unfortunately there were no pick up game it would seem. 'Oh well,' she thought, 'I'll just shoot around for a bit and then head home.'. She grabbed her ball and quickly warmed up before practicing her shot. She focussed heavily on the height of the ball, how she could make the arc higher and the release quicker. She didn't even notice as a boy walked up to court and began to watch her.
"Hey." A voice called, that threw off her shot which caused her to miss. "What are you doing here, it's getting late." The rough voice continued. She sighed lightly before jogging over to pick up her ball and face the boy talking to her.
"Oh, it's you, Aomine. Well," she began, turning around to face him, "I like to play, so that's why I'm here, and yeah it's late, but you're here too." She finished, looking at the tall, tanned male in front of her with a smile. He raised an eyebrow and his lips quirked into a smirk.
"Fair point. Would you be interested in playing one-on-one?" He asked. Suddenly, (f/n) noticed that his presence felt different from the last time they played. Even more overwhelmingly powerful and confident.
"Of course I'll play you one-on-one! Ah, how exciting!" She exclaimed with a happy smile and fist pump.
"I'm surprised you're still willing to play me." He stated arrogantly. "Even though my team beat yours and all. Surely you remember how good I am?"
"Pfft, why wouldn't I? I've played you before, but clearly you're the one that doesn't remember how well I play! Besides, playing tough opponents is part of the fun." She declared back. The smirk didn't leave his face.
"I don't remember too much from that game (F/n)-chan, but I do remember meeting you. Never seen a girl so committed to basketball. Oh well, now you can see how much I've improved. First to score wins?" He asked.
"Sure. Shoot for ball?" She suggested. He smirked.
"Nah, you can start with it." She sighed inwardly, wishing he could've started on offense, but there was no point in being upset about it.
"Thanks. Lets keep this short, I probably should get home." She checked the ball and then tried to think about her options. 'No way I could drive on him. I'll have to make space and shoot!' She decides. She begins dribbling the ball in her right hand, switching it to her left when she sees him move to steal it. In tune with the beat of her heart, she cut inward to the right. He moved with her. Then, as fast as she could, she leapt back wards as far as she could, quickly transitioning into a shooting position, keeping her right leg slightly raised in an attempt to maintain the newly created space. 'Hm, like Nowitzky.' She thought with a smirk. The ball left her hands quickly, but he was quicker. Of course she expected this. He smacked the ball out of the air and quickly ran around to get it.
"Heh, nice try, but..." He trailed off ominously as he snatched the ball out of the air. "It would never be enough to defeat me. This ends now." He declared. Aomine went full beast mode, dribbling, spinning, attempting to break faster.
'You're quick, but I see it all.' She thought triumphantly as she noticed a perfect opening for her to steal the ball. 'The subtle changes in your face, the repositioning of your hands, the twitching of your leg muscles. I know exactly what you'll do.' She seamlessly reached in and knocked the ball out of his grip. Once she had maintained control over the ball, she faced him. "I thought you said that this was over." she taunted him.
"Whatever... you just got lucky. As soon as the balls in my hands, I'll score." He grumbled. Irritated with the outcome of the game so far.
And the game continued for another ten minutes. And once again, she blocked him and got the ball. Aomine had no chances to drive, and found himself stuck as soon as he tried to shoot. He couldn't get a shot off. On the other hand, she had managed to get the ball up in the air, she had just missed because he was in her face. It was driving him up the wall and he couldn't take it.
"How the hell have I not beat you yet?" He yelled, grabbing her by the collar of her shirt and pulling her up to eye level. She glanced at the floor, avoiding his dark blue eyes. "Answer me damnit!" Finally she looked at him.
"Don't take it personally Aomine-kun. No one's beaten me in the last 4 or so years. Ah, well, except one guy. But he doesn't count." She mumbled. He dropped her unexpectedly, so she quickly grabbed onto him to catch herself. He flushed at the sudden closeness, but it was short lived as she soon let go. Aomine tried to gain his composure. "This game is done. We'll call it a draw."
"Hey! Who beat you anyway?" He called after her as she packed up her bag and headed home. She didn't even glance over her shoulder as she responded.
"Kid from America. You wouldn't know him."
Aomine wanted to call back to her but stopped himself. 'I'll see her again. As soon as I can. She's amazing at basketball...I can't help but be interested.'
