Trigger Warning
I didn't think I'd get this far, just to lose it all again. We held hands and our gazes. Both of us communicating soley by our withered eyes.
He parted his lips and I had thought he would make this easier for the both of us.
But no he didn't choose that. He chose to make everything more complicated by saying:
"No," I looked down at him, making sure that I had heard right. But when he repeated it, it was clear and my expression dropped drastically on hearing that.
"I'm sorry Gee, but I can't just drop everything and move to a whole 'nother state with you. I don't trust you that much," He said, not even looking at me.
I didn't want him to look at me. I didn't want him to see how damaging his words were nor how much they hurt and stung.
So I just smiled, a thin smile that made my face ache along with my chest.
"Okay, if that's what you really want," I let out, lifting my gaze up to the ceiling, as if I could see the future on it, but just really to prevent any tears from flowing.
"If that's how you really feel," I added a bit bitterly. He nodded while staring into his lap, hiding his face from me, but he couldn't hide the three drops of tears that fell when he moved.
I got up and left the now semi-crowded bathroom. The group of sophomores grew silent as they made way for me to pass and I walked out, now feeling irritated.
How could he say no, to me? Didn't he see what just happened a few moments ago? Can't he see that they want him dead?
The questions weighed heavily in my mind as I made my way down the hallway.
That was when the deputy principal called me to his office by the intercom. I groaned internally before I made my way to the reception.
What could he possibly want, now? Of all the moments to summon me, they chose now.
Mr. Peters beckoned me to his office and I gave a fake smile to the receptionist before heading to the deputy's office.
"Have a seat," He ordered and I did. He didn't look too happy and I had already knew the reason before he even summoned me.
"Do you know why you're here, Mr. Way?" He asked, half rhetorically.
"No," I lied anyways. I didn't want him to think I actually knew. That would make me look guilty.
"Well, I called you here to interrogate you about the bomb that was found in one of our students' lockers," He said, his voice accusing.
I shrugged nonchalantly, " I don't know what you're talking about Mr. Peters," I denied.
"Cut that act out, you and I both know that you put that bomb in Mr.Lero's locker," He hissed.
"It's Iero," I corrected him and he rolled his eyes before he hardened his gaze at me.
"I don't care what that punks name is, Way, what I do care is that some students were severely injured by the bomb blast and their parents are pursuing a lawsuit,"
I nodded slowly, contemplating what he had said. "That's sad and all, but how does that concern me Mr. Peters?" I asked simply, already growing disinterested by the whole conversation.
