TWISTS AND MISCHIEF
"Be my girlfriend." Jungkook looked at me seriously as he said this, his eyes narrowed and his lips pressed into a thin line. I stared back at him with the same intensity, but after five seconds passed, I burst into a fit of laughter.
I clutched my stomach as I laughed freely like I haven't laughed for years until my cheeks hurt and I was breathing heavily on the ground. Once finished, I looked up to smile at Jungkook cheekily. "That was funnier than my cousin's mom jokes."
Instead of joining in my laughter, Jungkook seemed displeased, with his eyes narrowing even more and his pink lips pressed together tightly as though he's holding back his anger.
"Thanks," he said through clenched teeth, "But I really didn't intend for that to be a joke. As much as I really wanted to."
I stared at him like a fish, my mouth popping open and close as Jungkook shut his eyes and pinched the bridge of his nose, like he was preparing to jump on the bridge of Han River.
When he didn't even crack the smallest smile, I found myself laughing nervously as I slowly stood up and fidgeted with my backpack nervously. I peeked at Jungkook, who was still looking at me.
I gulped. "Y-You don't m-mean that, r-right..." I chuckled nervously. "T-That was a good joke, b-by the way." I said, not meeting his eyes. "W-Well, if you d-don't mind, I've got to go!" I said, grabbing my backpack and preparing to sprint, but he caught my arm instead and pulled me to him.
I winced, looking at Jungkook who sighed and shook his head before letting go of me and giving me a good, friendly distance. "Nari, I'd like it if you'd let me explain a bit." He said civilly as he waited for me to stop fidgeting.
I finally looked at him. His expression was just as serious and that alone told me he was doing this seriously, and not just for laughs. For half a moment, I really wanted the earth to suck me up and let me die right then and there.
But sadly, the world's too cruel for that.
"What's there to explain?" I shifted nervously, "It's a joke, right? Jokes aren't meant to be explained."
"Nari," Jungkook snapped, and I jumped. When I looked at Jungkook, for a moment my breath stopped looking how his eyes softened at my small action but then it was gone that it feels as though it was just a dream. "This isn't a joke, I'm being serious."
"Well, it's got to be," I finally snapped back, gripping the hold of my backpack tighter. "I can't be your girlfriend. We don't even get along most of the times." I said, and he sighed as he rolled his eyes.
"You're crazy. And for once, you're right. This is fucking crazy." I muttered under my breath as I huffed out the words.
"I know that well enough," he said, "But you have to cooperate with me this time. Both of our heads are on the line here."
"Anything but that," I spat. "I can't even survive an hour with you, how do you expect me to be your girlfriend?" I winced, thinking at how disgusting it was to date Jungkook. "Most of the times you just rile me up to death!"
"Excuse me, many girls would line up to have a date with me."
"Well, not me!" I retorted, feeling my face flame up in anger. "You can't just expect me to do whatever you want like you have me wrapped around in your little finger, Jungkook, I'm sorry but I'd rather be homeless than date you."
