CHAPTER 4: Sophie

Jasper and I were sitting with my parents at the dining table, waiting for Peter to join us. He's running a little late and he never does without telling at least one of us he'll be late.

Right as I was getting ready to mind-link him, we saw him running into the room and sits down. 

"Sorry everyone. I lost track of time in the woods." He says breathless. 

"That's okay." Mom smiles. 

We all began eating and things were quiet for a brief moment until dad finally broke the awkward silence. 

"So, I spoke with one of the elders today about letting you come with your mother and I to the meetings. That way you can get the feel for what to expect when you take over." He says to Peter. 

"That would be awesome." Peter says excited. 

Peter has always wanted to go to the meetings since he was little and so have I but you have to be eighteen to go. 

"So, Soph.." My mom begins. "How was school today?" She asked me. 

"It was great. I was invited to a party this weekend." I say while taking a bite of my roasted chicken and avoiding eye contact with my dad. 

"Not happening." My dad says as he takes a bite of food. 

"But everyone's going. Besides, I'll be with Chantel." I assure him. 

"I don't care. Unless it's an ALL girls party, you are not going." He says with finality. 

"Alpha?" I hear my mom tell him as she cocks an eyebrow. 

"No. I'm not caving in on this one." My dad replies while looking at her. 

"She's going with Chantel and if she were to be in danger, I'm sure she can handle herself from the intense training you've given her and what she's learned from me also." She smirks. 

"The answer is no and that's final. Now drop it." He says. 

Another rush of awkward silence hits us as I begin picking at my food and trying hard not to talk back to my dad. I understand that it's the same old thing about how my parents were my age once and everything but seriously, it's not fair that guys are more trusted than girls. I mean, don't get me wrong, I love that my parents are protective of me and everything but sometimes, mostly my dad, is OVERPROTECTIVE. 

"Why don't Jasper and I go with her." I hear my brother offer as he smiles and winks at me. 

Both dad and mom look at the both of us. 

"That's a good idea." Mom agrees. 

My dad is looking back and forth at Peter and I as if we were up to something. But after a moment of him thinking about it and not saying anything, we hear him answer. 

"Fine. But I want you both to be back by midnight, no later." He says. 

"Of course." I replied trying to hold in my excitement. "Thank you." I smiled at him. 

After we were finished eating, I helped my mother like usual in washing the dishes and headed upstairs while our parents went off to bed. 

Before heading towards my room, I stopped by Peter's room as his was two rooms across from mine. I start to knock. 

"Come in." I hear him yell out. 

"Hey." I say while walking inside and closing the door behind me. 

"Hey." He replies as he sits up in his bed. "What's up?"

"I just wanted to come by and say thank you for helping me out in offering to take me to the party." I smile at him. 

"You're welcome." He smiles back at me. 

I walk over and sit next to him and can tell that something's on his mind. 

"You wanna talk about it?" I asked him. 

"Nah. Not right now." He replies. 

"Oh come on." I nudge him with my elbow. "Talk to me."

He takes in a breath and let's it out before answering. 

"I'm not even sure I understand it." He begins. 

"What?"

"Well, tonight, I was late because I ran to someone." He starts. 

"Who?" I asked. 

"My mate." He says. 

"Oh my god, that's great! Is she your age? Does she go to my school? Is she out of school?" I start rambling in excitement. 

"Calm down. And no, to all of those. Well, except for her age." He tells me. 

"Oh my god. Tell me what she looks like." I ask him. 

"She's beautiful. She has amazing light blue eyes, she has long red straight hair that goes to the middle of her back and she's curvy." 

"Oh my god, she sounds beautiful. When do we get to meet her?"

He pauses for a moment and looks off to the side before looking back at me.

"I'm not sure. I mean, I just met her today and I'm not even sure if we really are mates." 

"But you just said that she was. Meaning your wolf told you as I'm sure that her wolf told her." I mention confused. 

"That's the thing though. She's not a wolf." 

"What are you talking about? You're confusing the hell out of me." I chuckled. 

"I mean she's not a wolf. She's a...." He hesitates. 

"A what? A dragon? Wizard? Human?" I ask. 

"She's a witch." He blurts out. 

"A what? A witch? You're kidding right?" 

"No. I'm so confused. I mean, I have heard of wolves and witches and others that are opposites become mates but I don't know. I guess I had always thought about me and my mate running in the woods together and both our wolves playing." 

"Well then, what's the problem?" I asked. 

"That's just it, I don't know. I'm confused." He chuckles a little. 

"Well you better get unconfused cause I personally think it's bad ass that she's a witch and I say that as long as you're happy, that's all that mom and dad care about. Not to mention that you both are mates and that no one should tell you who you should be with or not." I remind him as I give him the same speech our mom always told us. 

He looks at me and smiles. 

"Well, how about I promise you that when I know for sure about her really being my mate and her accepting me, then i'll think about how to tell mom and dad?" 

"Okay." I agree with a smile. 

"Thanks sis." He hugs me. 

"You're welcome." I hug him back. 

"Well, I'm gonna go to bed. I'll see ya later." I tell him as I start to stand up and head towards the door. 

"Love ya sis." He says. 

"Love ya too. Goodnight." I tell him. 

"Goodnight." He smiles.
