I woke up to the view of the sun setting from my window. I sat up and stretched my body, I could hear my bones crack as I stretched and groaned.
I looked around as I yawned and saw that the stranger was looking at me. And this time, I took a good look at his face. His face looks so angelic but manly at the same time! He looks so handsome.
I was brought back to reality when a camera flashed. "What's your name?" He asked.
"Kathleen June Dominguez?" I said in confusion. "What's yours?"
He was silent as he scribbled down on the free notepad that the hotel has, "Where do you live?" He asked in all seriousness.
"I live in the Philippines." I said with my eyes squinted. "I think I was blinded by that flash." I mumbled groggily.
"Your birthdate?" He asked not minding what I said earlier.
"August 06, 1993." I answered. "So, is this because you think I'm going to do something to you? I can assure you that I won't do anything."
He didn't say anything after that. I stood up opened my luggage to get a pair of clothes for the Dinner rehearsal later. "Are you going to use the bathroom?" I asked.
He shook his head, "Looks like you need it more than I do." He said as he typed on his phone. I couldn't help but smell the collar of my shirt on the way to the bathroom. I still smell alright...right?
I went in the bathroom and took a warm bath. I used the blow dryer and dried my hair after brushing my teeth. I went out wearing a white dress that I use at work and a pair of nude two inch heels. I applied a peach blush and a nude lipgloss and heard that my phone was ringing. I hurriedly went out and sat down on my bed and answered the call.
"Yes, Boss?" I asked.
"Hi, Kathleen. I just want to say that you're a genius!"
"Pardon?" I asked in disbelief. He has never complimented me.
"Your proposal was approved! I tweaked the proposal a bit but don't worry! Just minor changes. Anyways, I need a few documents done by tomorrow evening?"
"Sure thing, Boss. I'll work on it."
"Okay, thanks!" He said before hanging up. I sighed, "Why did I agree to this paid vacation?" I muttered.
I got my sling purse and put my phone in it when I noticed that the screen recorder was on and that my battery is at 10%. "Can this day get any worse?" I asked myself and went and get my charger and power bank and wallet.
I looked at my stranger roommate, "I'll be out. What time do you usually sleep?" I asked.
"Why?"
"I didn't want to disturb and wake you up." I said and waited for him to answer but he just wouldn't. I nodded awkwardly and walked towards the door when...
"I don't know what time I'll sleep." He said.
Finally, a decent conversation with this guy! "I'll try and go back early."
He didn't reply, "And that's my cue to go." I said as I walked out rushing to grab a taxi and go to the venue. I reached the garden where the wedding will be held and they were already done with the entourage rehearsal. I sneakily went to my seat and sat down feeling that all the eyes were on me. Janice and Perry, the organizer were glaring at me.
Everyone was wearing their fancy high-end dresses and were wearing full glam make up. Do I feel underdressed? A little bit. I looked around and I saw Ella and Paul together for the first time. I could feel something tugging at my heart. All kinds of thoughts went through my mind and what sticked was that should've been me. I did my best not to cry and actually succeeded.
It was the time for the reception. We were all sitting on our designated seats and Perry was initiating the flow of the program.
"Kathleen Dominguez." Perry called out. I saw Paul look around the crowd and met eyes with mine. I stood up, "Oh, the late comer." She muttered in distaste.
"I'm sorry, I needed to do my job." I said.
"I don't accept excuses." She said sternly. I heard snickers from Ella's cousins Nikki and Anna along with Janice. I could feel my cheeks flush from embarrassment.
I grabbed the microphone, "You may start." Perry said rolling her eyes at me.
"Ella and Paul... where do I start?" I asked as I chuckled looking at the both of them. Paul looked like he saw a ghost and Ella looked indifferent. "I know you both so well. We've been through a lot as friends. Ella was like a sister to me and it has been that way ever since. As someone who you said you looked at as a big sister, I'm happy that you're happy. Cheers to the newly weds." I said as I lift my wine glass.
"Cheers!" Everyone clunked their glasses and I pulled out my phone as I went back to my seat and saw that it was already 10 in the evening.
I walked to the bathroom to look at the mirror. When I saw that I was still okay, I went out only to be dragged by the wrist in the bathroom.
"What the hell?" I asked in annoyance.
"Why are you here?" Paul asked.
"Your fiancée asked me to come." I said.
"I didn't agree to it." He said clearly annoyed.
"Is that my problem?" I asked. "You got some thick skin for someone who dumped me."
"I don't know what you're up to coming here, losing weight and wearing skimpy dresses but I don't want you to cause trouble." He said.
"Then take me out of the guest list. I don't mind." I said. "If you need me to pay the air fare and the hotel then I'd gladly pay you back." I said pulling out my check.
"No need, we both know you can't afford it anyways. Consider it as a consolation for the damage I caused you." He said.
I scoffed and shook my head in disbelief. I went out and hailed a taxi. I could feel the tears fall down continuously. I paid the driver and went to my room. As soon as I got in the room, I went to the bathroom and washed my face and brushed my teeth as I bawled my eyes out.
How dare he?
I went out of the bathroom and got my white shirt and gray cotton shorts to change into. After, I went to my bed directly and slept with a heavy heart.
