After Mila gave Ashanna a tour of their lovely village and introduced her to some of its people, Ashanna found herself lying in the meadow.

Her smallest wolf lay on her lap.
Ashanna had named the little wolf Shadow, upon finding her and her sisters.

The rest of her wolves lay a few yards from her, enjoying the peace.

Mila lay beside her, gaping at her. She watched Ashanna's wolves in disbelief.
Mila explained that in the Riverlands, when you heard a wolf you ran. But if you saw one there was no point in trying to flee.

"I'll never understand..." Mila mused out loud. Ashanna turned her head to face her. Mila gazed up at the cloudless sky.

"Never understand what?" Ashanna asked. Mila turned her head to face her. Her green eyes etched with wonder.

"I'll never understand why bad things happen to good people.. I don't understand... Why do bad people insist on trying to break good, strong people?... You had to watch monsters murder your father, like I had to watch my mother. Time separated you from your family, as it did me. Our families didn't deserve to go through hell in their lifetime." Mila whispered.

"Every time I close my eyes I see him on that platform. I would do anything to have my family together again.. But I can't. I'm sorry about your mother and for what those men did to you and your village." Ashanna said softly.

"You and me... we aren't that different, are we? People have tried to break us but we've only become stronger." Mila said as she outstretched her hand to Ashanna.

"Bad things happen to good people, that is true. But I am a firm believer in repercussions. One day everything those monsters did to us.. it will destroy them."  Ashanna said as she took Mila's hand.

Mila grinned at her.
"If the circumstances of our births had been different maybe we could've become close friends." Mila mused. Ashanna laughed.

"Why would we allow that to stop us?" Ashanna asked. Mila's eyes widened in glee.

"Friends?" Mila asked.  Ashanna nodded.

"Friends."
Ashanna felt like a normal girl in that moment, a girl without the pressure and the fear that had been smothering her since Joffrey took her father's head.

It was nice to breathe.
Even if it was just for a moment.
