Sunni climbed up towards the cart as Mactum covered him with a brown sack. Sunni lay down amongst other particular things. He would have to hide himself under the sack until he was far enough from the kingdom.
Mactum then went ahead and speak with the cart driver, a man he buried his trust. Ending their conversation, Mactum head towards the back and stand aside the corner of where Sunni was hiding.
“Have a safe journey and be happy Sunni, a life for a life.” He said.
For a moment, Sunni did not think much of what Mactum was saying. Maybe this was a trap; maybe the man was leading him down to his own grave. Maybe it was true after all that he could never escape this place. Maybe it was wrong for him to put so much trust on the man who is well dedicated to the king.
But perhaps, it is too late to ponder over such thing. Alive or not…it was destined.
Moments later, the cart moves. The rustling of horse shoes and wheel rolling above the ground accelerated Sunni’s heart beating. The inside of his chest was beating immensely and it was hard to breathe. It seems as if the space were closing on him.
It was suffocating. But, rather here than inside there…in the castle.
Sunni close his eyes and pray for the gods to give him a second chance. He would promise to be a good person and to always help those in need. He pray for the gods to bless the orphans safety as he would never be able to see them again, would never be able to protect them nor provide for their meals.
It would be the first place that Taizan would search for him. But Sunni knows no matter how cold hearted the king is, he would never a hurt child. He has a son and Sunni is convinced that he had taught the king to be a good father, not just to his children but to the children of the kingdom. They may not be related by blood but they look up to him for their safety.
Sunni pray again to the gods so that they gave Mactum anything that the man wishes for Sunni would not know what to pray for him. He would not know what to say.
They never really converse and Mactum was never an open book. But he prays for him nevertheless.
The journey took a toll on the smaller man until what seems to be endless.
Sunni doze off on the journey but every time he opens his eyes again, he did not dare to remove the sack. He felt as if they were not far enough.
His stomach churn in hunger as his throat silently begs for water. He was thirsty beyond belief.
He needed some food and water or else he would die in this sack and as if his life was not pathetic enough.Bravely, Sunni lifted up the sack and peek through as his eyes travel to as far as the sight goes. From what he could see, they were surrounded by mountain and rocks, big rocks.
Sunni lifted his sack completely and look up. He could see the driver of the cart’s back as he speak.
“Excuse me.” He began.
The driver, seems to be an old man with a long white beard, dark brown eyes and one missing teeth as he smiles towards Sunni and gave him a friendly face.
“Ah, I see that you are awake. You must be thirsty and hungry.”
The old man pointed to one of the wooden box also covered with a sack. “There. Inside there you will find water and bread corn. Help yourself. We wouldn’t want you to starve.”
As Sunni reach his way towards the boxes, the old man turn his attention to the front again.
He searches for the water and once in his hand, he gulps it slowly and it was as if all the beautiful things in the world have sparkles. The feeling of being alive thrives through his neck and not long after, he hold the corn bread on his other hand.
