stop worrying, stop worrying, stop worrying. is what went through august wills brain, not only as she walked to the car to go to her first football game of the school year, but most of the time.

she was a timid thing, yet in her brain her thoughts were intense, and she wasn't ever 'thoughtless' as you might call it. she never had any friends, except for one, but she was out of the picture now, and she blamed herself for it. the only thing she thought to do was to shut herself out.

"get in. we're gonna be late." said laurel, august's older sister.

"sorry, i was-" "it's fine, just, get in, okay?" laurel said softly.

laurel & august were the closest out of the family, but that didn't mean they were particularly best friends or anything. saying you were close in their family meant actually talking to each other on a day-to-day basis and they were the only ones who bothered to do so.

the wills family was set apart. they were a family of 6 and they were all different from each other. they never communicated or talked like a family should. they never went out for ice cream just because, they never had a family meeting, they didn't do any sappy crap, but hey, they were family, and that's what matters, right? wrong.

"you okay?" laurel uttered out of sympathy, as always.

"yeah, fine, just thinking." august whispered, staring out the window, her mind filled with endless thoughts of leia.

leia richardson was august's best friend. back in 5th grade, they met and became friends. then, august didn't have a shy attitude, or 'social problems' as the guidance counselor called it. she was just a happy-go lucky 11 year old.

as leia and august got older and their friendship grew stronger, they realized that they were both alone in the world. as cheesy as it may seem, they both had a rough relationship with their parents, and they only had each other to talk to about it.

the day leia went missing is when it all changed. and today marks one year since it happened.

"listen, i just want you to know," laurel sighed, trying to figure out how to word her next sentence. "leia would've wanted to you to lead a full life, and be happy, make new friends, and-"

"leia isn't dead, she's missing. and i wish you'd stop referring to her that way." august interrupted, her voice breaking.

"i'm sorry, i, just wanted to say, be open to new opportunities, i guess." said a empathetic laurel.

she started the car and august didn't utter another word the whole ride to the school. her heart was still shattered, she was still in shock, and even after a year of crying, screaming, and searching for leia, she wouldn't give up.

leia IS alive. and i'm going to find her.
