I'm now back to my original position, sadly, no progress was made. I'm on the hospital bed, being examined by a guy-- not Hayden-- the other one. He seems to know is way pretty well around medicine. It must come in handy around these parts. I stare at him:
"Why are you doing this? Are you trying to help me or something?" I ask him, becoming impatient because of the lack of explanation.
"I'm only trying to make sure you're not hurt, that's all," he responds gently as if not to make me jump out of his touch.
"Mmmmmmk, whatever you say," I retort not believing him.
"My name's Lennox, Ava."
"Ok... Wait, how do you even know my name?" I glare.
His face contorts in guilt and he just stares at me. I am getting impatient waiting for his answer. Tension is building up in my body and my hands turn into fists. Lennox continues to do nothing but stare at me so I grab him by the front of his shirt and I lift him up as to get him eye to eye with me.
"Look here you little kidnap--
"Wow! Is this a bad time Lennox? Should I come back?" Hayden interrupts with malice in his voice.
"It's not funny Hay."
"Well, it's a little funny. You got her all feisty. Something you want to disclose you two?" he continues his little joke.
I let go of Lennox who just shakes his head at Hayden and leaves the room, without forgetting to throw him a glare and an angry murmur.
Sadly, this means I'm still not alone. Hayden decides to lose his sense of humour and to grumpily watch over me. His slender figure is leaning against the shelf, his arms are crossed firmly across his chest as it communicates there is no room for conversation or questioning as I did to Lennox. His eyes are closed and a creepy smirk has replaced his almost playful expression. He seemes deep in thought.
I try to occupy myself by staring at him but that soon gets boring. I then scan the bare room. I believe it has been cleared since my last passage. Maybe they now consider me as a threat, which I highly doubt I could ever be. With my 5 feet 5 figure and my lack of muscular mass how could I ever?
I glance back at the boy and shrink back noticing his intimate and concentrated gaze is plastered on me. I quickly avoid it and stare at my hands as I nervously twiddle my thumbs. No words are uttered for a while. Only an awkward and uncomfortable silence occupies the space. I have enough of it:
"Can Lennox come back? I like him much better than you."
"Oh darling, you break my heart," Hayden says jokingly reaching up with right hand and placing it over his heart in a mocking gesture.
After that he only glares and returns to his thoughts. I shift nervously on the bed causing an acute sound to detonate through the room. Stupid bed. I stop moving around scared to bring his attention back on me.
Not soon enough, the girl and Lennox come in the room to talk to Hayden.
They are talking in hushed tones and truthfully, they seem to be having a telepathic conversation because I put all my might into concentrating to decipher their words but it is all in vain. Only parts of sentences were caught by my ears, not even enough to deduce or emit an assumption upon what they are murmuring about. Probably me.
Impatiently waiting for them to utter a word that will seal my fate. Bullet to the brain? Exile out there with the mean looking men? Stabbed in the heart? Torture? I swallow hard as these shuttering thoughts crosses my mind. As panic and paranoia take over my mind, my hands clam up and I wipe them profusely on my pants. Kyra, the girl, is the first to break my train of crazy thoughts (surely they can't be capable of killing me).
"She's going home and that's that! End of discussion!" she hollers, red-faced, nostrils blazing.
She stomps over to me, my eyes widen as she grabs my arm with an iron grip and forcefully stands me up. As her fingernails dig into my skin, I'm dragged to where the other two are standing.
"Here!" she says as I'm shoved onto Hayden, "Jump her back. She doesn't belong in our world and you know that..."
"No"
"What did you say...?!" Kyra protests.
"I said... No" Hayden asserts in a very firm tone, hands tense at his sides. "She already knows too much," he says calmer after shoving me off him. "We can't send her back with that kind of info. What happens if it falls into the wrong hands? Besides, we don't even know the full length of her side effects. She at least has to stay here until we know she's a hundred percent okay. Back me up on this Lee."
He utters as he gives his friend a pleading but mischievous look. What is he thinking? Wait a second. Side effects. His words echo in my head as all the possible and unspeakable outcomes pass through my head. As I am caught in my terrifying train of thought, Lennox, with a sigh, opens his eyes looking done with both of them and their arguing. His gaze settles on Kyra and calmly says:
" I'm sorry Ky, but I think Hayden is right. At least for a little while."
To these words, Kira crosses her arms and rolls her eyes, tapping her foot in annoyance. Hayden sticks his tongue out at her in triumph and Lennox shoots her a look of sympathy. He glances at me with the warm smile, I try to return it but my nervous grin only cracks.
" I want to make sure you are completely fine," he says to me warmly. "Nothing to worry about though. You'll be back to your home soon enough euh... hmm..."
"Ava?" I offer shyly. "Great. You've already forgotten my name."
At least he has the decency to look guilty. Meanwhile, Kyra is still glaring at Hayden vigorously. He doesn't seem to notice as he also moves on to other matters.
"Well, then," he cheerfully says as he clasps his hands together, "why don't we get the hell out of this dump and go do something fun!"
An uneasy feeling overwhelms me, but curiosity and adventure push it away.
Oh where oh where are they going? hahahahahh. Hope you like the measly first chapters!
