Naira had her cloak hood over her head as she walked to the village with Kai. "Hide your ears and tail. I already hid mine." Naira spoke, her voice full of caution and worry. "Stop worrying so much!! We aren't even halfway there!" Kai smiled, speaking in his usual carefree tone.
"Fine. But when our camp gets caught by the villagers--"
Naira stopped dead as her foot hit a large object on the forest floor. She looked down and saw what nobody should ever have to see. The body of her father, lying there on the floor. There was dried blood around the cut on his neck. His eyes were glazed with death.
Naira let out a scream of grief and sorrow, falling to the ground next to her father. Kai looked down, his eyes wide. "FATHER!! NO!!" Naira screamed, looking at his body in tears. Kai looked at her, then her father. His face had the same expression that Naira's did, but he couldn't falter. He had to help his best friend.
"Naira.. he didn't deserve this. I'm so sorry." Kai kneeled down, laying his hand on Naira's shoulder. She was in tears, curled up on the forest floor. "Come on, we'll bury him before we go." Kai spoke in a tone of comfort. "Alright." Naira croaked, standing.
She dug a large hole in the ground with her hands. She finished after a while. Kai helped Naira carry the body of her father to the hole. They both covered it up, sending a final prayer before setting off.
Naira kept her eyes to the ground and her hands in the pocket of her cloak. "I will find who did this, and they will suffer." Kai looked at her, slightly frightened at her tone. "And I'll help you, let's just get to the village." Before I'm killed too. Kai thought, looking down at Naira.
He half smiled, laying his arm around her waist. This sent a wave of shock into Naira's brain. What does Kai think he's doing? Why does this feel so awkward. Oh, because-- OH. NOPE. Naira thought, blinking.
"Kai.. look at where the flip you put your arm." It had moved up to the curve of her hip. Kai looked down, his face turning a bright shade of red. Naira's face did the exact same. "..get that hand off--" Naira was pulled, spinning to face Kai, their faces an inch away from each other.
And that my dear children, is how you end a perfect chapter. On a cliffhanger. I know, I'm evil. Hue hue hue. But honestly, Naira and Kai ship names????? Leave a comment down below. Alright, bye my darlings! I have to work on the next chapter!
