My head was still ringing from the blast. I was buried under the remnants of the plane, and I started to panic. I forced myself to swallow and push off the debris, but then I realized most of it was dust and ash. The blast had disintegrated the plane.
I saw cyborgs scanning, probably for us. I couldn't see Tony or Agent Romanoff, so I figured they were still buried. I ducked my head under long enough to hide from the scanners, and hoped I wouldn't be found. I couldn't kill these things on my own.
A few minutes later, I was a) very glad I had a mask on, and b) very glad that I hadn't been found. The cyborgs all started walking away, and I shook my head slightly, just enough so I could see through the ash. They were all walking away in single file, towards the parking lot. I waited until they turned around the corner of the building, then rolled out of the pile of dust and sat up.
And then I saw another cyborg.
I cursed under my breath as I snapped out of the way of his gun. I guess they left this guy behind to make sure we stayed dead. I propped up a piece of the plane as a shield, hoping it would buy me time.
"Karen!"
"Yes, Peter?"
"Switch to electrowebs!!!"
"Electrowebs activated. Would you also like me to activate Instant Kill Mode?"
"NO!"
I threw the scrap metal at the cyborg, a last ditch attempt to delay my death, and started firing.
The electrowebs actually did stop the marchine guns, but the rest of the cyborg was still functioning. I jumped and started to target its chest and head, in hopes of hitting something important. Every piece of its body my webs hit short circuited, but then it started to deform.
"What the..Karen! What's it doing?"
"It appears to be morphing."
"Wait, so it can change its face?" I manually switched my settings to regular webs. "That is so cool!"
I webbed the dude's legs with one hand and pulled a piece of the wing with another. As I jumped and swung the wing towards the cyborg, Karen asked, "How cool was it when it was trying to kill you?"
I brought the wing down hard on the cyborg's head. I collapsed and split into a bunch of pieces.
"Considerably less cool."
The present threat taken care of, I returned to the huge ash pile and started digging for Agent Romanoff and Tony. I found him first, with Karen's help. His nanosuit was pretty badly damaged, but Tony himself was all right. I looked around and saw the jet we had used to fly here in the first place, and I started to drag him that direction. Once he was lying somewhat in the seats, I ran back for Agent Romanoff.
It took longer to find her, since Karen could communicate with FRIDAY, but she didn't have an AI to help her. Eventually, I saw her blonde hair streaking the dust, and I digged further down to her chest. Once she was about a third of the way uncovered, I lifted her by the arms out of the ash.
She was in much worse shape. The blast burned through her suit, and she had a nasty burn on her arms, which I think she blocked her face with. Her back was all bloody and cut, so I picked her up fireman style, and ran her over to the jet instead.
Once inside, I closed the doors and laid her on her stomach, not wanting to hurt her back worse. I sat next to Tony, and caught my breath as I leaned on him. At least he wasn't hurt that bad.
I reached over and deactivated his suit. It probably wouldn't be much help anymore, with the damage that it took. It retreated into the holding cell on his chest, and he sunk into the cushions on the seats. I sat him upright and tried to wake him up, but he didn't respond. I tried not to worry about it.
