Chapter 16

“Zach I need to tell you something.” I say as my breathing gets heavier. He looks at me. We walk slowly to Faith's room, I sit down on a bench. Zach sits next to me worried. He rubs my back.

“Tiana? Are you okay?” He asks and I shake my head no as chills take over my body. My breathing only gets heavier. Heavier by each second.

“Zach I can't. I can't see Faith like that. I'm the reason she's in that condition. It's my fault for not watching my little sister. Doctors says she might not function the same. That she may never walk again. It's all my fault.” I manage to say still trying to get my breathing back to normal. He grabs my hand.

He looks at me and says, “You’re going to to need faith. It wasn't your fault. It wasn't Faith's fault.” Zach's hands starts shaking. A look of sorrow falls on his face. He looks at me with tears in his eyes.

“Tiana I-I need to tell you something…” He stutters. I look up at him and his hands still shakes.

“The day Faith was hit they said on the news that the driver was not found. That the accident was considered a hit and run. It was Frankie who did it. I'm so sorry.” Tears fall down my face.

“So what do you mean? You saying my dad has been hiding this from my mom and I? So your father is keeping Faith in ICU to cover up the fact that Frankie did this to her?” Anger builds in my voice. Zach looks down and I walk off.

“Tiana wait!” He says walking behind me and I pick up my pace. Trying to ignore him.

“Tiana please I'm sorry.” I turn to face him and slap him. He holds his face.

“I deserved that.” He says before looking at me. Tears form in my eyes. Tiana don't start crying. You always cry. Don't cry.

“Why would you hide this from me? Why? I trusted you Zach.” I wait for him to answer.

“Because my father told me to. He was going to ruin me. Ruin me by disowning me as his son. He was going to kick me out if I told you. I had to watch you. That's why I was always looking at you and your beauty always intrigued me.” He reaches out for my hand and I push it away.

“You better get your things from my house and go.” I walk off not turning back. Not even thinking about all the moments Zach and I had. I was done. Done with being used. So done.  

“Tiana wait!” I hear him not caring. Fuck him. I look around for Faith’s room. I look through the window to see the nurse making sure Faith was doing alright. I knock on the door and the nurse looks up. I open the door and see my sleeping sister. I look at her and then look at the nurse.

“Hey I’m nurse Nancy.” The nurse says before putting down her clipboard. I shake her hand and says, “Hey I’m Tiana.”

“Oh your mother told me all about you. I’ll let you two have a moment.” She says and I smile. She walks out. I sit next to Faith and grab her hand. The beeping machine going off.

“Hey Faith it's me Tiana. I missed you.” I say looking at her sleeping body. She breathes through the tube. Seeing that brings tears to my eyes.

“Faith….I’m sorry for being a bad sister. I know I should've hung out with you at the park that day. This wouldn't have happened if I was being a great sister and hanging out with my awesome sister. Calculus could've waited.” I rub the top of her hand with my thumb as I still hold her hand.

Tears fall down my face. Seeing my sister like this hurts so much. I start thinking about Zach.

“I met someone who I think you will like. He's a sweet boy. Maybe of we get back together you can meet him. Please Faith please wake up. I miss you. I need my little sister back.” I say as I cry.
