"Thanks for walking us here Mr. Winters." Elizabeth said and Alexander's dad smiled at her.
"It's been my pleasure Miss Lincon."
She grabbed Bobby subtly but hard as her mother and Mr. Winters engaged in conversation.

"Woah!" Bobby silently yelled as she yanked him backwards.

"Where's Alex? I thought he was going to be here since he invited me!"
"He'll be here." He replied, fixing his shirt.
"Today takes a... heavy toll on him."
"What, he has traumatic barbecue stories?" Elizabeth said dryly and immediately, saw Bobby's expression change from the person she had known to... someone else.

Then, like it had never happened, his jovial demeanour covered his face again.

"Well, you'll understand when we get to the park." Bobby's uncle said, smiling at her and she was definitely surprised.

How on earth did he hear them?

He led them to a clearing and she saw a statue she had never seen. It was in the shape of a woman; a beautiful one at that.
"Who's that?" Her mother asked before she got the chance to.
"My wife." Michael Winters answered with pride and sadness in his eyes.
"She was kind of a big deal in the scientific community and loved her here. Helped develop hospitals and schools among others. She was a hero to these people. So, they come every year to celebrate her and her life."

"Wait... she died?" She said and he looked at them funny.
"Yes. Twelve years ago today." He responded. "You actually don't know her, do you...?" And when the shook their heads he shrugged. "I guess you don't get out much."
"Very perceptive Mr. Winters." Her mother smiled.
"So, that's why Alex is Alex?" Elizabeth asked and Michael shook his head.
"Not at all."

"Why then?"
Then, she saw the guilt and weariness all over his face as he responded.

"Because, he watched her die a horrible death and couldn't do anything about it."

Christine was confused as she kept stalking Bobby and the rest. She waited at Alex's house only to see Bobby come out with that guy and walk the woman and her daughter to the park.

How did she never realize that they were related?

This wasn't making any sense.

"What happened to your wife Mr. Winters?" Elizabeth asked and the man sighed heavily. Apparently, he was Alex's father too. But that 'Elizabeth' girl seemed familiar...

"Well, she got sick." He started. "The treatments were supposed to help but, she just kept getting worse. Her former partner who was also a medical doctor tried to help us but, she passed. That day, Alex requested to feed her and give her the drugs himself. Some moments later, he came out with blood all over and no expression on his face."

He shook himself from trying to relive that moment and continued. "I lost both of them that day... Anyway, he'll show up. Don't worry."

A smile crept on Christine's face.

A doctor partner?

She knew only one.

And she took off into the night, never noticing the eyes that followed in the dark.
