Illusions

I once thought

The world would always be joyful.

No tears shed, no despairing words said.

Only smiles and laughs

Would fill the air, ringing out

Loud and clear.

I once thought

Freedom could be taken for granted.

That everyone had a choice

How to speak, how to act.

No pressure to fit in, to

Please those in power.

Only individuality would be expressed,

A virtue valued and admired.

I once thought

Friendships could stand the test of time.

That true bonds could never be

Shattered, always stronger than ever

Through thick and thin.

No amount of rumors, backstabbing

Could tear close friends apart.

I once thought

Everything could be forgiven.

That love could heal all wounds

And resolve even severe conflicts.

That friends could always reconcile,

No matter how hurt they might be.

For friendship is a powerful weapon,

And it must triumph over hatred.

I once thought

Everything could be possible.

But only now do I see,

These utopian illusions simply

Cannot be. For we live in a

Twisted world, a world of

bitterness, a world of

Revenge.
