Part one: The Beginning

April 17, 2012

 Olivia Hensley

Silence.

Olivia stood in shock. Not knowing how to react. Ethan, her boyfriend of 3 months, was dead.

“How?” Olivia asked her mother

“The doctors are not sure honey. It seems like it could have been some form of animal – “ her mother’s words got cut off by Olivia’s uncontrollable sobs.

“Oh, Livi honey, I am so sorry. Is there anything I can do for you?”

As Olivia tried to control her sobs, she looked at her mother and just shook her head and walked upstairs to her room.  She had spent every day of the last three months spending time with Ethan. She had not gone with him last night to the woods though; she did not feel it was safe.

Little did she know how right she was.

 Richard Talvett

“Sir, I do not know how or why but it’s gone”

Dr. Richard Talvett sits in shock “What do you mean it’s gone? It is a dead body for god sake’s! They do not just get up and walk out!”

“Sir, I assure you when I left for lunch at noon the body was still on the slab and when I returned at 1 it was gone”

Dr. Talvett sighs, “Fine, I will contact the police. ”

Dr. Talvett could feel the heat rising in his body, how in the world was he going to explain such a story to the police. This new intern was a pain in his ass and was not worth the time he had given him and now the kid somehow lost the body! How is that even possible?

The Doctor picked up the phone and dials the police station.

 William Clark

“I just got a very interesting call from Dr. Talvett down at the hospital” Sheriff William Clark said to his fellow officers. “He says that the body of the boy, Ethan McGillen found in the woods early this morning has gone missing.”

“How does a dead body go missing Sheriff?”

“I am not sure bu—“

“Sheriff Clark, there is a phone call for you on line 2.”

William picks up the phone and hits the number 2 button that is flashing red. “This is Sheriff Clark… Yes ma’am.      but, what?      Okay, I am on my way.”

“Williams, Farst, and Culley let’s go, we have another dead body.”

 Richard

Dr. Talvett sits in his office chair for the arrival of a body that was found lying on the highway as he hears the elevator chime ring.

“Hello Mark, what do we have?”

Mark Masters, the mortician in the town, walks into the morgue with the body. “Hello Dr. Talvett, it is a young female, will you let me know when to come pick her up?”

“Of course Mark. Thank you.”

As the elevator doors close and Mark is gone, Dr. Talvett unzips the black body bag. He opens the flap and shakes his head, “ This is too sad, two young kids in a matter of hours.  Sean! Get in here, we have work to do!”

“Yes, Dr.?” Says Sean Farley.

Sean was the Doctor’s intern for the semester. This was his last amount of credits before he graduated.

“This is the young female that was found on the highway a couple of hours ago. We need to get the autopsy done and find out who this girl is so Sheriff Clark can inform the family.”

“Okay Doctor, I will prep the trays.”

Olivia

Olivia decided it was time to get out of the house. She needed to get away; she could not stand looking at the pictures because she could not believe this was real. She felt like she drove forever. She kept thinking about Ethan. “How could he be dead, I just seen him.” Of course there was no answer, she was talking to herself again.

After about an hour she decided to get out and walk. Maybe things would become clearer for her. As she got out of the car she heard something in the trees. She thought it was nothing and kept going. While she looked forward she realized how beautiful everything was and how Ethan was never going to be able to see this again.

As she hit her knees on the pavement and started screaming and crying, she realized she was not alone. She felt the eyes watching her and could hear the screams, no not screams, moans back. Slowly she got up off her knees and started to walk back to the car.

She picked up the pace because she heard scraping, well more like dragging. Finally she was at a full on sprint. She reached the car and got in. She locked the door and sighed, she knew she was just imagining things. She decided it was time to go home. As she was driving down the street she seen a shadow in the trees. She could have sworn she seen more than one, when all of a sudden multiple people started walking out from the trees .

And then she seen it, someone she thought she would never see again…. Ethan.

But he wasn’t the same, he was dirty. His blonde hair was now brown and red from mud and blood. His blue eyes were no longer blue, they were a black and his skin was not tan anymore, he was gray. His head was cocked and had a huge gash in it. This is when it hit her, he was walking but he was…

Dead….
