CHAPTER 2: The Blazer and a Shane
I wonder in my head, if maybe he actually likes me. Who knows? Shane could be interested. Why else would he walk up to me-ahem, touch me-and start a conversation with me? Most people would just keep walking.
"I have to pick something up from the Blazer, is that okay with you?"
"Yeah, sure! More time to talk to you!" His eyes twinkle in the cutest way!
I blush in the blotchy kind of way that Serena envies. She think I'm so lucky! No one can tell she's blushing because of her chocolatey skin.
"So what's been going on lately? Why'd you quit the soccer team? You were amazing!" Shane asks with concern in his eyes.
"Umm, a few months ago, my mom had to make a few budget cuts. That's why I quit. My dad's in the army so he can't really pay for anything. He joined when I was three. I don't remember. I moved in with my best friend, so that the bills would be easier to pay. We haven't heard from my dad so..."
Jeesh Cecily! You can be so talkative sometimes! I have never said the right things when I'm around guys. Especially cute ones. Serena always knows what to say.
"Oh." is all he says when I finish.
"Yep. I have plenty of issues. So if you don't want to deal with it you might as well step away now." I say coldly.
"This isn't the first time something like this has happened to me. You think that just because you have problems you can push me away? Even when there's the slightest chance that we can be friends?" He says softly.
My eyes tear up, but I refuse to cry in front of him.
"I think we should be going now. We're a block away from the Blazer."
He gives me a strange look, but nevertheless we carry on. A few minutes later we arrive at the Blazer, a quiet, homey, bookstore and café. I try carefully not to look at him as we weave through the piles of people lounging around reading, studying, or just relaxing. We soon reach the history section and I find the book Joanne wanted. I buy it and as I'm about to leave Jason asks me:
"Hey Cecily, do you mind going to a restaurant with me nearby?"
