This, is Berk. It's twelve days north of Hopeless and a few degrees south of Freezing to Death. It's located solidly on the Meridian of Misery. My village. In a word, sturdy. It's been here for seven generations but every building is new. We have hunting, fishing, and a charming view of the sunsets. The only thing that seperates us from other places are animals. See where other places have bears or wolves, we have... dragons.
********Hiccup dashed out of his house as fire took over it. He casually walked over to the forge, ignoring the other Vikings telling him to get inside.
He entered the forge to be treated by Gobber.
"Oh, there you are, thought you were carried off," Gobber said.
"Oh, who me. You know I can handle myself," Hiccup said.
"True, but they do need toothpicks," Gobber said teasingly.
Gobber didn't truly think Hiccup was weak. He was the strongest of his age group as well as the second strongest person in the archipelago despite his appearance. He could've had the capability to kill dragons if he wanted.
"Pick up a weapon Hiccup, they need us out here," Gobber told his apprentice.
"Actually, I think I'll just stay here and man the fort," Hiccup responded.
"Are you sure, I know from experience that you're plenty capable of killing a dragon. My question is why won't you," Gobber asked his apprentice.
Hiccup fingered a pitch black dragon scale hung by a leather cord around his neck. The memory of what happened 6 years floods back to him.
"It's just not me Gobber,"
A nine year old Hiccup was running through the woods with 4 wolves behind him. His father had told him never to go out in the woods alone, yet he had gone anyways. He reached a cliff and was trapped. The wolves got closer and closer. Hiccup backed further and further.
"S-stop," he yelled.
The wolves kept getting closer. Hiccup backed off until he fell off the cliff.
He screamed as he saw the ocean getting closer. He closed his eyes, preparing for his life to end, until he felt himself being picked up and lifted back towards the cliff. He opened his eyes to see the wolves with fear painted on their face. He heard something roar behind him and the wolves scattered.
Hiccup turned around to see a pitch black dragon. He had never seen any other dragon like it so the only other option was a...
"N-night Fury?" Hiccup asked.
The dragons ears perked up to hearing its species name being called out. It nuzzled Hiccup before flying him back to the edge of the forest. It nudged him towards the village. Hiccup could here his father telling his name.
"Thank you," Hiccup said.
"You're welcome," a voice in Hiccups head said.
Hiccup was shocked but nodded anyway. The night fury flew off.
